Polyvagal Theory isn’t new.
Our ancestors mapped the nervous system long before Western science gave it a name.

Your nervous system holds ancestral memory.
Before Polyvagal Theory, our people already knew:
Drum for balance
Ceremony for connection
Land for grounding

Decolonizing namies how colonization has shaped our nervous systems.
Re-indigenizing is reclaiming the ancestral ways we regulate, heal, and thrive—together.

Your body already knows the way home.

Medicinal Drumming integrates traditional medicine with group therapy to promote physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being.

I’ve had the privilege of learning this transformative practice from Dr. Sal Núñez, whose work bridges traditional practices and modern therapeutic techniques. His teachings have inspired me to share the healing power of drumming with others.

Contact me to learn more about Medicinal Drumming Circles. Whether you’re seeking to build community, stress relief, emotional balance, or a deeper connection to yourself, Medicinal Drumming offers a path to renewal and harmony.

What You’ll Experience:
Grounding rhythms to calm the mind and body
A safe space for emotional release and renewal
Connection to community and shared energy

The process is rooted in both ancient traditions and modern therapeutic practices.

No drumming experience needed.

This practice has been endorsed by the San Francisco Department of Public Health, the National Network to Eliminate Disparities in Mental Health and the University of South Florida.

Janneth is accepting new tele-health clients in California. And is offering evening appointments.

Janneth identifies as a wombyn, mother, hermana and a costeña xicana whose lineage descends from Oaxaca and Guerrero, Mexico.

She is a bilingual and bicultural, inclusive therapist who utilizes a strength-based and client-centered approach. Janneth incorporates culture, nature and teachings from our ancestors into the therapeutic space. She loves working with adults seeking support with acculturation, intergenerational trauma, identifying and unlearning machismo culture, unpacking the immigration experience and stressors, grief/loss, depression and the emotional identity shift that comes with becoming a new mom.

Through a decolonized mental health approach she has the honor to support clients navigate life transitions, process psychological wounds, and reconnecting with their ancestral knowledge and wisdom.

Please contact her directly for a consultation. Link in Bio.

03/12/2025

The Mexica/Aztec New Year (Yancuic Xihuitl) 13 Kalli (House) marks the beginning of a new cycle in the Mexica calendar, symbolizing stability, protection, and transformation. Kalli represents home, family, and the foundation that supports growth, while the number 13 is a sacred number of completion. This year encourages deep reflection, strengthening of community ties, and reconnecting with ancestral wisdom. It’s a time to build a strong inner and outer foundation, embracing both personal and collective renewal.

This is a powerful time for reflection, and reconnecting with ancestral wisdom as we set intentions for the cycle ahead. It is a good time to focus on our first Kalli–our body, mind and spirit. As we step into a new cycle, it is also another opportunity to rethink how we approach mental health and wellness.

Decolonizing mental health means honoring indigenous ways of healing—community, connection to nature, ceremony, and storytelling. Our traditional ways tell us that wellness isn’t just individual; it’s collective. This new year, let’s release colonial ideas of “hustle culture” and isolation and individualism, and instead embrace rest, balance, and ancestral knowledge and traditions.
