Hospital Friendly Doula Training.
April 23 and 24,2022.
Oakland, California

Who doesn’t want to have a great relationship at their work place?
It isn’t uncommon that doulas get a reputation of not being in the same team of the medical system. Our goal is to change that.
Our differential is to train new Doulas to create harmony in the birth room while still empowering couples. Empowerment is the key. Empowerment comes from evidence based information.

Our doulas will pride themselves to help couples to be confident not just because of the doula’s support but also from access to evidence based information and helping women to combine that with their instincts.
At the same time our doulas will be learning basics of pregnancy, labor and postpartum, and how to support a family through that journey while building her own business.
Become a valuable professional not just for your clients but also for the medical system. That’s how you will make an impact in the birth world.

Some examples in labor: Pitocin or Miso that leads to fetal distress. Epidurals that leads to a fever or high blood pressure. Numbness that leads to poor pushing efforts resulting in cesareans. Lack of movement that leads to fetal mal presentation leading to vacuums/cesareans. Do those things happen everytime? Of course not. Do they have a high statistics of causing those things? Yes! However, sometimes interventions might be needed but the problem is when birthing people are left with the belief that those issues were just bolt to happen when they were just side effect. That is lack of information, consecutively lack of informed consent. Not to mention all the iatrogenic situations caused by not medically needed intervention.

This is a post found in all the labor rooms in a big chain of hospitals. It is great that they are asking for feeback but I get upset about the picture. It is obviously of a doula, or maybe two doulas with a laboring patient whoever many people may not know what a doula is. So, this idea of support is passed like it comes within the package of laboring in the hospital. Unfortunately, that’s one of the things that most hospitals have in common. Laboring in the hospital comes without labor support and many people learn that at the moment of labor. They think/believe that their nurses and doctor will be doing support and they don’t have a clue that they don’t have time for that and that it isn’t even in their scope. Some nurses, midwives or maybe even doctors may take some of their time and do support but they don’t have the time to be with laboring people during their whole labor. How do we allow to pay so much for a system that doesn’t provide a main necessity of labor: support.

Ankles out, knees in, open that inner pelvis. The pelvis has two openings, its inner part and the outer part. Because of the bone structure of the pelvis babies need to make a rotation while going through the pelvis. Movement in general facilitates that, as well as putting our knees and legs in specific angels. This is the angle that creates more space in the inner pelvis and helps a baby that is in the pelvis to go deeper and rotate.
