Oakland Heights’ very own, kind and very sweet Heidi! We miss you! ❤️

We are incredibly grateful for a generous $64 donation to the Oakland-Craig Inclusive Playground — given anonymously in memory and honor of Heidi Holm. This is the second gift we have received celebrating Heidi’s $64 years of life, and we feel truly privileged to help share her remarkable story with our community.

Heidi was a proud Oakland-Craig alum who was diagnosed with arthritis at just one year old. Despite the challenges she faced every single day, she never let her condition define her. In high school, Heidi would wake up extra early and walk from her home down to the dredge and back before school — all to loosen up her body so she could manage the many steps inside the school building. That determination is nothing short of inspiring.

But what so many remember most is not her struggle — it’s her spirit. Heidi was fun, quick-witted, and rarely complained. She had a great sense of humor and even delivered a consistent (and pretty mean!) side-arm volleyball serve. In 1979, she was crowned Homecoming Queen — a true reflection of how much she was loved by her classmates.

Heidi went on to become an occupational therapist, dedicating her life to helping others live more fully and independently. Though she was forced to retire early due to her health, she made a lasting difference in countless lives during her years of service.

Gifts like this not only move our playground project forward — they help us honor stories of strength, perseverance, and heart. Thank you to this anonymous donor for celebrating Heidi’s legacy in such a meaningful way. Her story reminds us exactly why an inclusive playground matters.

The Oakland Heights 2026 Valentine's party held today was overflowing with joy, thanks to the radiant presence of our crowned Queen Sue and King Don. AD Crazy Cupid brought boundless cheer to everyone's faces as Wayne Miller's accordion melodies soared. Everyone had an unforgettable experience. Also Adam from Asera Care was also among the celebrants, spreading warmth with his thoughtful treat of popcorn and Valentine's M&M's to share with the staff and residents, further enriching the joyous atmosphere. OH handed out Valentine treat bags for each resident!
We love & care about our residents!

A huge thank you to Nelson’s Bar and Grill for their generous $500 donation to the Oakland-Craig Inclusive Playground Project!

When life gets busy and we don’t quite have time to cook at home, Nelson’s Bar and Grill is always ready to serve us. From providing delicious meals, to offering catering services, to keeping us hydrated at community events — they show up for Oakland time and time again. Their doors are open to young and old alike, making their establishment a place that is both social and family-friendly, where everyone feels welcome.

They serve our community in so many ways, and now, as this inclusive playground comes to life, we as a community get the chance to serve them. This project goes far beyond the excitement of a new playground for owners Dillon and Kelli Johnson. They have raised their family right here in Oakland, navigating local facilities and recreation events with their sweet children, one of which uses a wheelchair. How special it will be to offer him, their family, and individuals of all abilities the chance to explore, swing, slide, and spin together at the inclusive playground.

Thank you, Nelson’s Bar and Grill, for all you do for our community. Thank you for serving us. We can’t wait to better serve you!

We extend our sincere thanks to the Oakland-Craig Public Schools School Board for their generous donation of $50,000 to the Oakland-Craig Inclusive Playground and for leading the way as the very first supporters of this project.
