Thirty years ago, A Home Within began with a simple promise: to show up for foster youth, for free, for as long as it takes. Today, that promise is alive in every client-therapist relationship — like long-time client, Maya said:

“After years of moving between placements, my AHW therapist is the first adult who’s kept showing up. Week after week. Year after year. That’s changed everything for me.”

Big news! 🎉 A Home Within is thrilled to announce a new chapter — North Carolina! 💫

We began reaching out to therapists in the Raleigh–Durham area after seeing the opportunity to support more young people in foster care across the state.

Currently, Raleigh/Durham has 10 incredible volunteers who will soon be ready to sit down with their A Home Within client for the very first time. Will it be you?

🍂 Self-Care Summer got a glow-up! As the weather turns brisk and life gets busy, A Home Within invites you to carve out 🎃 some time for yourself for cozy moments of connection and care.

Our volunteers have been hosting self-care gatherings to spread the word about A Home Within — as well as bringing self-care to their communities. We love the intersection of self-care and mental health — because caring for ourselves is the foundation of caring for others. It’s how we sustain the healing relationships at the heart of A Home Within.

🌟 Michele Vigil, LMFT — Volunteering feels like a “full circle moment” for Michele, a former foster youth herself; she brings deep empathy and resilience to her work.

🌟 Amber-Lea Martinez, APCC — Amber-Lea joined to break down barriers to mental health care. She deeply values the client relationship and finds volunteering with AHW fulfilling.

🌟 Gia Stark, LMFT, LPCC — Gia joined in 2022 to provide pro bono therapy to a former foster youth. She says this work reminds her why she became a therapist in the first place.
