Charlotte Maxwell Clinic

Charlotte Maxwell Clinic Charlotte Maxwell Clinic is a women's health clinic founded in Oakland in 1991, offering free integra

Licensed/certified complementary practitioners volunteer to provide integrative health treatments to low-income cancer clients. Treatments include acupuncture, herbal medicine, homeopathy, bodywork, guided imagery, movement, and nutritional therapies. These healing modalities have been shown to help the immune system recover from the harsh but necessary and life-saving treatments of Western medicine. Most importantly, these treatments generally are not known or not financially accessible to women who are low-income and uninsured. Our community of over 230 clients, 160 volunteers, and 5 staff includes monolingual, bilingual, differently abled, and women of color. We serve low-income women with any kind of cancer, whether it be breast cancer, cervical cancer, metastatic cancer, ovarian cancer, lung cancer, stomach cancer, colon cancer, etc.

💗 Sister Support Sircle x Miracle Miles for Maria 💗

Look at how amazing this is!
This walk is held in loving memory of Maria, who was diagnosed with breast cancer at just 34 and passed away at 37.

Maria found peace, healing, and sisterhood at Charlotte Maxwell Clinic — whether through acupuncture, massages, support groups, or simply sharing a cup of tea in a space where she felt safe, seen, and understood by others walking the same path. 💕

Maria was introduced to Charlotte Maxwell by her older sister, an intern at the clinic — and from there, her connection to this community grew deeper.

✨ A heartfelt thank you to Sister Support Sircle for your continued support of Charlotte Maxwell Clinic and for honoring Maria’s legacy through your dedication, compassion, and advocacy. Your efforts help ensure that CMC can continue to be a lifeline and a source of care, healing, and community for women facing cancer. ✨

🌸 Room to Heal: Charlotte Maxwell Clinic Open House 🌸
October marks Breast Cancer Awareness Month—a time to raise awareness, honor survivors, and remember those we’ve lost to breast cancer.
At CMC, we see the human side of this diagnosis every day: the fear and uncertainty, the exhaustion of treatment, and the resilience it takes to keep moving forward. For the women we serve, that journey is made even harder by obstacles to care, language barriers, and limited resources—challenges that are becoming more widespread.
Right now, more women than ever are turning to us for care. We’re growing because the need is growing. We’re expanding by knocking down walls to create more space for healing, group wellness classes, and new offerings.
Join us on December 4th for our Open House as we honor the volunteers and staff who make our work possible and remember the clients whose stories shape our mission.
🗓️ December 4, 2025
⏰ 4:00 PM – 7:00 PM
📍 411 30th Street, Suite 508, Oakland, CA
Come see our new space, celebrate the people who make it possible, remember those we’ve lost, and help us continue expanding access to compassionate care.

🎗️ October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month 🎗️

At Charlotte Maxwell Clinic, this month is deeply personal—over half of our clients are living with breast cancer. We design programs specifically for their needs, ensuring no one walks this path alone.

This October, we’re proud to:
✨ Offer a client lymphedema class (expanded due to high demand!)
✨ Host our second practitioner CEU training on the therapeutic use of mushrooms

These programs strengthen our community of providers and ensure our clients receive compassionate, expert integrative care.

💖 You can make a difference! Your generosity directly supports programs for all cancer clients. Please consider making a gift today: https://charlottemaxwell.org/get-involved/donate/

🌟 Welcome, New Volunteers! 🌟

In September, we were thrilled to welcome 15 new practitioner and program support volunteers to the Charlotte Maxwell Clinic community! They’re already making an impact, seeing clients and supporting our mission this October.

Our newest volunteers bring expertise in acupuncture, meditation, cranial sacral massage, Rosen bodywork, and more. Over the coming months, we’ll be introducing each of these talented individuals so you can get to know them better.

For now, we want to take a moment to celebrate and thank this amazing cohort. Your time, skills, and heart are the backbone of our community—thank you for everything you do! 💛

Our Story

The Charlotte Maxwell Clinic is named in honor of Charlotte Maxwell, who died of ovarian cancer in 1988.

Charlotte strongly believed that the integrative cancer care that enhanced the quality of her life in her last months should be accessible to all Bay Area low-income, underserved women with cancer.
