Sacred Roots, Oakland

Sacred Roots, Oakland VISION

Sacred Roots seeks to center people of color - Black, Indigenous, API, immigrants, queer, and womxn - in our pursuit of shared healing and liberation.

We are a collective of seasoned BIPOC movement healers, culture workers, and wisdom keepers of Indigenous traditions from the Global Majority who create reciprocal, intergenerational spaces for healing, learning, and connection. We are a Black, Indigenous, Women of Color-led grassroots project, fiscally sponsored by Canticle Farm, in the village of Huichin, the ancestral territory of the Chochenyo Ohlone people. We cultivate our collective wellness through cultural healing practices and embodied learning. VALUES

Cultural Wisdom - We offer a liberatory learning and healing pedagogy, rooted in Black, Indigenous, API, and People of Color communities and practices. Power With - We believe that the wisdom of those most impacted by the systems of oppression must inform the “what” and the “how” of social transformation. Interconnected - We believe in and nurture the sacred presence and connections between all living beings. OFFERINGS

We offer embodied community-based learning & healing through a collective table of medicine that is both relational and proximal to those most impacted. Street Academy: facilitates embodied and experiential healing-based anti-oppression learning circles, grounded in our interconnectedness and relational proximity with beloved street scholars, healers, organizers, and activists in our communities. We believe that the wisdom of those most impacted by the systems of oppression must inform the “what” and the “how” of social transformation. We offer seminars, workshops, and retreats of varying lengths.

- Relearning truthful history
- Reconnecting with our traditions and cultures - healing what was
broken, the transmission of the medicine from one generation to
the next
- Recovering traditional, ancestral, and holistic healing tools while
transforming systems of oppression

Justice Sanctuary: offers medicine of various healing modalities, rooted in BIPOC cultural wisdom and practices. Our BIPOC practitioners are trained in energy work, spiritual accompaniment, acupuncture, herbalism, astrology, numerology, somatic coaching, poetry as medicine facilitation, doulaship, and counseling.

- We see wellness as a balancing of the four quadrants of the
individual's healing basket - physical, mental, emotional, and
spiritual
- By resourcing individuals in the movement and those most
impacted by trauma and oppression with wellness tools, we
strengthen our collective capacity, resilience, and effectiveness
in our struggle for liberation

GIFT ECONOMY

At Sacred Roots, we believe in a generosity-based gift economy as a way to build collective wealth. We share our offerings with deep respect, gratitude, and honor to those who came before us. Your financial contribution is part of honoring and paying it forward by allowing this work to continue to advance the movement toward collective healing & learning.

🌿✨ Deep gratitude to everyone who joined us for Elemental Support in Conflict. Together we remembered the sacred practice of calling on the elements—earth, water, fire, air, and spirit—for wisdom and comfort in times of conflict.

We journaled, gave space to all the parts of ourselves that arise in conflict, and gathered around a sacred altar for grounding and healing. 💧🔥🌱💨✨

Next up: Generative Conflict through Tarot & Somatics with Kimi Mojica & Sarah Cargill.
Conflict is often seen as something to avoid—but what if it could be a way to connect, learn, and grow? In this session, we’ll use the Devil card in the Tarot, somatic practices, storytelling, and reflection to dance with discomfort, confront what keeps us stuck, and discover new ways of meeting conflict with curiosity, compassion, and agency.

Thank you to everyone who joined us for our second session of Restorative Justice Across Lineages!

We gathered in circle with libations for our ancestors, plant support for grounding, and sound healing to soothe our bodies and spirits. Resourcing self-compassion in the ways our ancestors may not have been able to allows us to extend deeper compassion to our families without disappearing ourselves—especially in the midst of conflict and harm.

We are so grateful for the beauty you each brought into the space. 💛

Next up: Finding the Wisdom of Our Shame Through Embodied Play
Saturday, Sept 20 | 2–4 PM | Clinton Park, Oakland
Free & open to all
