With winter upon us it is important to have your snowblower ready to go for the next big snow storm!

A common issue we see with snowblowers is when the drive wheels slip or no longer work at all. Over time there is a rubber friction disc in the transmission that wears down. A simple cable adjustment can sometimes fix a slipping drive wheel problem but often a heavily worn disc will require replacement. If the cable is not kept in proper adjustment it can prematurely wear out even a brand new disc!

Small engine equipment like generators and lawn garden tractors have electronic control circuit boards that operate their various features. They are also some of the most expensive components to replace when they get damaged. This issue has come up often recently. We did a video on it about 5 years ago.

Ariens made a snowblower drive wheel system for a short period of time where a trigger lever on the left side handle bar will engage both wheels together or disengage the left wheel when one wheel drive is needed such as making a zero degree turn at the end of the driveway easier without wrestling with a 200+lb machine.

The ratchet mechanism is often overlooked by technicians to be serviced. Corrosion prevents the components (axle splines specifically) from moving freely which can stop the left wheel from locking together with the right. It makes it very difficult to push snow straight with only one wheel spinning!

Hey Everyone!

Thank you all for helping us to stay busy! We are currently booking out repairs on snowblowers for the new year so please contact us now if you want to get on the schedule.

We are seeing common issues related to stale fuel being left from last season clogging up the carburetor causing the engine not to start or run very poorly.

You can avoid this by draining your fuel tank/carburetor bowl of old fuel before storing it dry. You can also run the tank dry, refill it with ethanol free fuel, run it for a few minutes and then store it. Save your money on fuel additives/stabilizers. They DO NOT prevent/fix these issues.

Other more serious issues we have seen are not using the correct shear bolt for the auger rake but instead a standard grade 5 hardware store bolt. The shear pins are just that. They shear/break off when you hit something hard like ice or concrete so you do not damage more expensive parts. A hardware store bolt will BEND but NOT BREAK causing major damage to the mechanical parts. These repairs are very costly to fix.

Sometimes replacing a transmission belt is not as easy as it sounds. On some tractors it requires almost complete disassembly of the machine down to the frame rails. This machine needed a new belt and repair to the damaged transmission fan.
