A stairlift myth. I see ads all the time that say “has battery backup”. That is simply not true. With a couple of very dated exceptions mostly for commercial applications, stairlifts run on batteries all the time. The batteries are not for backup, they are the source of power. If you unplug it from the wall, it will still operate. If you have a power outage, it will still operate. For a while. When the batteries go dead, it quits. If your power is restored or you plug it back in, it still runs on the batteries. If the batteries go dead, it quits whether it is plugged in and you have power or not. What you plug in is just for the battery charger, it does not power the stairlift. You should never unplug your stairlift. Even if you are going to be away for a few days, leave it plugged in so that it remains fully charged.
