Things are looking up! Surgery went a little longer then expected yesterday but everything went well. Have had a few minor setbacks that have already resolved and should not have to spend another night in the ICU! Up out of bed and feeling better! Chuck would like to thank everyone for checking in!

Amputation Day is June 18th at University of Miami.

My cancer has returned last year with a large tumor in my right lower leg and it spread to my lungs. Chemo is keeping my lungs under control.

Now this ….

We met with the ortho surgeon today. He feels that he can get clean margins and have room for a "flap" (reconstruction process) by doing a below the knee amputation. As long as Chuck does well, he will only spend a night or 2 in the hospital. Surgeon says Chuck will meet with prosthetics b4 surgery, and the goal is to have him on a temporary leg within the 1st 2 months!! Chuck has a lot to do prior to surgery day, and of course, have to have insurance approval. Looking at the end of May through mid-June for the chop date. Will let you know when we do. ❤️

June 18th will be surgery day.

I recently lost my mom Carolyn Matheney to cancer. She was there by my side during my cancer journey and now I’m in remission. My mom was diagnosed the first week of December and passed away the 27th of this month. Unfortunately, hers was fast growing. I go back to St Louis Monday for my 3 month CT scans. She won’t be there beside me supporting me. I’m so lost without her. It was always her, my wife Amber Brashear Matheney and Tina Midgett . I lost a member of my fighting team. I feel guilty that she lost her battle and I’m still here. Life isn’t fair at all! My point to all this is, PLEASE hug your wife, husband, sister, brother, friend, neighbor, whoever because tomorrow isn’t promised and your world can be turned upside down in a blink of an eye. LOVE TO ALL!!!

Haven’t updated u all in awhile ... but no news is good news right? ... RIGHT!!!
Chuck completed his 7 weeks of radiation therapy in St Louis... a huge shout out Hope Lodge where he stayed with his escorts for the Mon thru Fri treatments ... he had also had his follow up scans ... and as of now he is CLEAR !!!! No cancer !!! He will continue scans every 3 months to verify but we r all positive !!! Radiation treatment still plays games with his energy and memory but he is hoping to be back to “normal” soon. Thank u all for ur support !!!

Ok all...I know it's been a few weeks...but we are very very close to one month post- op..surgeon is very pleased with Chucks progress! He was given permission to ride the motorcycle which has made Chucks day. The pathology report reads "well rounded margins" ...so on to the next steps in beating this sarcoma. Oncology radiologist is setting Chuck up for EXTENSIVE radiation therepy....In approximately 2-3 weeks Chuck will begin daily radiation therepy....5 days on...Mon-Fri....2 days off ..Sat Sun.....for 6-7 weeks...The worst part of this is it HAS to be done in St Loius....the type of radiation he requires to kill any remaining sarcoma cells....but still protect his brain is only available in St. Louis.. or Chicago. Since his team is in St. Louis that's wrre we are going!...The second difficult issue is he will REQUIRE another adult to be with him during the week. This aggressive treatment is to kill any remaining cells that could be hidden and also reduce or eliminate the chances of it coming back....at least on his head. Our amazing team of doctors feels if this were to happen there just isnt much room to get any more area removed safely. I'm so very proud of the progress Charlie has made and know we will manage this next phase just as well! Thank you all for sticking with us on this journey!

Our second walk of the day! Having a few bouts of nausea...we hope to have fixed that by making his glasses fit without pressing on his left face/head! He is doing amazing! Gonna relax for the rest of evening and hopefully get some rest!
