When we visit our parents, everything can look normal at first.

The house is familiar.
They seem fine.
The visit is short.

But sometimes the small details tell a different story.

Things families often miss during quick visits:

• A refrigerator that’s nearly empty
• Mail piling up on the counter
• Bruises that weren’t there before
• Medication bottles that look confusing
• Food in the pantry that expired months ago

None of these things alone mean something is wrong!

But together, they can be early signs that everyday tasks are becoming harder.

Many families only realize this after something bigger happens — a fall, a hospital visit, or a crisis.

Taking a few extra minutes to notice the small things can make a big difference.

If you have siblings, consider sharing this with them so everyone is paying attention to the same details.

Over the past few days, we’ve been sharing simple reminders about fall prevention at home — better lighting, securing rugs, bathroom safety, footwear, medication changes.

Individually, none of these feel dramatic.

But falls rarely happen because of one big mistake.
They usually happen because a few small things went unnoticed.

A hallway that’s a little dim at night.
A rug that curls up just enough.
A new prescription that causes slight dizziness.
Shoes that used to fit better than they do now.

This is where consistent support really matters.

A good caregiver isn’t just helping with daily routines.
They’re paying attention.
They notice when balance seems off.
They move the rug before someone trips on it.
They turn the light on before it becomes a problem.

That steady awareness is what prevents injuries.

At Home Care Recharged, that kind of attention is part of how we operate. It’s one of the reasons families have trusted us year after year — and why we’ve been voted Best of 352 four years in a row!

If your parent could use someone keeping an eye on the small things, we’re here when you need us.

This is Part 5 of our fall-prevention reminder series for families.

Sometimes the risk isn’t what’s on the floor — it’s what’s in the medicine cabinet.

Many medications that older adults take can have side effects like dizziness, drowsiness, or blurred vision. These side effects can make it harder to keep steady on your feet and increase the chance of a fall. Some types of medicines — including sedatives, antidepressants, and others that affect the central nervous system — are especially known for this.

Pay extra attention when a medication is changed, the dose is adjusted, or a new drug is added. Watch for signs like:
• Feeling unusually dizzy or lightheaded
• Trouble walking straight
• Greater fatigue after taking a pill

If you notice any of these, it’s worth calling your parent’s doctor or pharmacist and mentioning the symptoms — not to stop treatment, but to check whether the medicine mix is contributing to balance changes.

Small conversations like that can help prevent a serious fall.

If you have siblings, share this so everyone is aware of this often-overlooked risk.

This is Part 4 of our fall-prevention reminder series for families.

It’s easy to overlook what someone wears around the house — especially if they’ve worn the same slippers for years.

Loose slippers, smooth-bottom socks, or worn-out soles can quietly increase the risk of slipping, especially on tile or hardwood floors.

Footwear that fits well and has a stable, non-slip sole can help improve balance and reduce fall risk (Harvard Health).

Take a look at what’s by the couch or next to the bed.
Are the shoes supportive?
Do they grip the floor well?

Small details like this can make a real difference over time.

If you have siblings, share this so everyone is paying attention to the same things.

This is Part 3 of our fall-prevention reminder series for families.

Bathrooms are one of the most common places where falls happen. Hard surfaces. Water. Tight spaces.

It doesn’t take much — stepping in or out of the tub, turning too quickly, reaching for balance.

Bathrooms are among the most common locations for senior falls (National Safety Council).

Take a look at the setup.
Are there sturdy grab bars?
Is there a non-slip mat in the tub or shower?

Small adjustments here can prevent serious injuries.

If you have siblings, share this so everyone is thinking about the same risks.

This is Part 2 of the fall-prevention reminders we’re sharing for families over the next few days.

Today’s one is simple — and very common.

Loose rugs and curled corners cause more falls than most people realize.

It doesn’t take much. A slightly lifted edge. A slipper catching just enough. A quick turn in the living room.

Falls are the leading cause of injury among older adults (CDC).

Take a few minutes to walk through the house.
Look at the rugs, cords, and pathways.
If something shifts or curls, secure it or remove it.

Small adjustments can make a big difference.

If you have siblings, send this to them so everyone’s paying attention to the same details

Over the next few days, we’re sharing simple reminders that can help families reduce fall risk at home.

These aren’t dramatic changes — just small adjustments that can make a real difference.

Part 1: Lighting.

Take a quick look at the hallways and bedrooms.
Are they bright enough at night?

Most falls happen at home.
1 in 4 adults 65+ fall each year (CDC).

Sometimes something as simple as better lighting can lower risk.

If you have siblings, share this so everyone’s aware

🚨 Family Alert

We’re seeing more scam attempts that claim household services will be shut off unless payment is made immediately.

These messages often sound legitimate and create urgency, which is why families get caught off guard.

We encourage families to talk about this scenario ahead of time and share this reminder with anyone helping manage a loved one’s household matters.

Awareness helps protect everyone.
