I Wasn’t Always Like This

I wasn’t always this slow.

There was a time when I woke up early, made breakfast for my children, packed lunches, and sent everyone off to school. My hands were strong then. My legs worked just fine.

Now it takes me a while just to get out of bed.

Sometimes I drop things. Sometimes I forget things. Sometimes I just sit quietly because it’s easier than asking for help again.

The hardest part isn’t the pain.

It’s the fear.

Fear of falling.
Fear of being alone.
Fear of being a burden to the people I love.

At night the house gets very quiet. Too quiet. And sometimes I wonder… if something happened to me… would anyone know?

Then my caregiver walks in.

She smiles and says, “Good morning.”
She helps me sit up.
She makes sure I’m safe.

And for a little while, I don’t feel so afraid anymore.

Because someone sees me.

Someone cares.

And in this chapter of my life, that means everything.

A Quiet Moment

Last night one of our caregivers sat beside a client who could barely speak anymore.

The room was quiet except for the soft hum of the oxygen machine. The client looked over and whispered, “Are you leaving soon?”

Our caregiver gently held her hand and said, “No ma’am… I’m right here.”

Tears filled the client’s eyes. Not because she was in pain… but because she was afraid.

Afraid of being alone.
Afraid of the unknown.
Afraid that no one would be there when she needed comfort the most.

In that moment, our caregiver didn’t just provide care. She provided presence. She held her hand. She spoke softly. She stayed.

Sometimes the most important thing we can give someone isn’t medicine or treatment.

Sometimes it’s simply letting them know…

“You are not alone.”

At Miracle Hands, we understand that our clients are not just patients. They are mothers, fathers, grandparents, and people who once cared for others themselves.

And in their most vulnerable moments, they deserve compassion, dignity, and someone who cares.
