Dr. Janell Green-Smith answered the call to birthwork out of deep concern for the alarming rates at which Black women die during and immediately after childbirth. After delivering more than 200 babies and impacting countless families, she tragically lost her life while delivering her first child.

Honoring Dr. Green-Smith means continuing to demand accountability, equity, and safety for Black women in birth and beyond. I am committed to doing my part to continue this work.
