I do understand that sometimes people cannot see themselves at a weight I set, but I see it, and I have been doing this successfully for a very long time. My job is not to get you to a weight that you want to be if that weight is still overweight; itโ€™s not to get you to the โ€œslimmest Iโ€™ve ever beenโ€ if that is still overweight. My job is to get you to the weight I know you must be โ€” so I can put you through stabilization and maintenance programs to give you the best chance of never being overweight again. If you have 50 pounds to lose but only want to lose 30, this is not the program for you.

Both those cards donโ€™t โ€œplayโ€ well with me. And if you canโ€™t handle hearing โ€œCut the crapโ€ when itโ€™s relevant, youโ€™re not the right client for me.

My experience is that those who think they โ€œknow it allโ€ when it comes to weight loss simply because theyโ€™ve been dieting forever are also those who are unwilling to be open-minded about a new way of doing things. Theyโ€™re full of โ€œI canโ€™tsโ€ and โ€œI wonโ€™tsโ€ in terms of what they canโ€™t do and/or wonโ€™t eat or drink (excluding allergies and medical issues, of course), or wonโ€™t give up. Theyโ€™ll throw the money at me and think that because they โ€œjoinedโ€ the program, thatโ€™s the same as โ€œdoingโ€ the program. If this is you, save your money. This is the wrong program for you.

Struggling with those final 10 lbs. or what feels like a never-ending plateau?

A lot of people go hard on strict diets and workouts for a few days/weeks . . . but habits aren't consistent long enough to move the needle.

Ever eat "perfectly" and train religiously all week, step on the scale Saturday, see zero change . . . then think "What's the point?" โ†’ binge eat and skip the gym?

Or maybe you barely string together a couple good days before falling off.

Even "occasional" treatsโ€”like a massive restaurant dessert (4-5x a normal serving, loaded with sugar/fat)โ€”aren't moderation if they're more frequent than you admit.

Removal of water and addition of salt to meat creates a solute-rich environment where osmotic pressure draws water out of microorganisms, slowing down their growth (giving it a longer shelf life, for one thing). Doing this requires a concentration of salt of nearly 20%.

๐’๐ฆ๐จ๐ค๐ž๐ ๐ฆ๐ž๐š๐ญ๐ฌ ๐š๐ซ๐ž ๐จ๐ง๐ž ๐จ๐Ÿ ๐ญ๐ก๐ž ๐ญ๐จ๐ฉ ๐œ๐จ๐ง๐ญ๐ซ๐ข๐›๐ฎ๐ญ๐จ๐ซ๐ฌ ๐จ๐Ÿ ๐ฌ๐จ๐๐ข๐ฎ๐ฆ ๐ข๐ง ๐ญ๐ก๐ž ๐”.๐’. ๐๐ข๐ž๐ญ โ€” not necessarily because of the smoking process itself, but because smoking often involves curing the meat first, which usually includes a salt brine or rub.

Even if you have a sandwich on bread that is high in whole grains, the cold cut itself will raise your blood pressure because of how much sodium is packed into each meat particle.

Turkey pastrami, the item my client was inquiring about, typically contains around ๐Ÿ’๐Ÿ”๐ŸŽ ๐ญ๐จ ๐Ÿ–๐ŸŽ๐ŸŽ ๐ฆ๐ . ๐ฌ๐จ๐๐ข๐ฎ๐ฆ ๐ฉ๐ž๐ซ ๐Ÿ-๐จ๐ณ ๐ฌ๐ž๐ซ๐ฏ๐ข๐ง๐ ! (And keep in mind that as per the American Heart Association we should try to limit total daily sodium to less than 1,500 mg. per day.)

I would NEVER recommend buying ANY deli meat or cold cut that is pre-packaged because that means the potential for even more sodium (which, as I mentioned above, gives it a longer shelf life). It is always best to buy fresh-sliced deli meat that is cut and weighed to order. And when you do, inquire about a โ€œlower sodiumโ€ version.

In the end, my job when working with a client is not to โ€œallowโ€ or give permission (or to deny) to eat something. It's to educate, which I did. And in this case, the client decided to pass.

Counting macros sounds smart . . . until it becomes one more exhausting thing on your plate when you're already learning to cook, shop, and eat real food instead of takeout.

A client down 70 lbs. asked me about it recently. My answer? For most overweight folks starting out, it's counterproductiveโ€”tedious, inaccurate, obsessive, and burns you out fast. Marginal benefits aren't worth the mental drain.

Get quality macros? Yes. Obsess over grams? Nah. Stick to WHAT (real food), HOW MUCH (portions), WHEN (timing), and prep. That's sustainable change.

Research shows that every extra pound of body weight puts three pounds of force on your feet with every step you take โ€” and seven pounds when running. So, a 200-pound person? Thatโ€™s 600 pounds of force per step walking โ€ฆ and 1,400 pounds when running.

No wonder so many clients tell me theyโ€™ve started walking differently.

Unlike four-legged animals, we donโ€™t have three legs to lean on while the fourth moves. Walking is basically a controlled fall โ€” one leg catches you, pushes off, and you fall forward again. Lather, rinse, repeat.

Your body wasnโ€™t designed to carry twice or three times its natural weight and still move normally. When youโ€™re carrying that much extra load, you start shifting side to side just to stay balanced on one leg at a time. Thatโ€™s the โ€œwaddleโ€ you see (and feel).

This is just one of the many ways excess weight quietly messes with your feet and your gait.
