We are happy to announce South Central Primary Care as the recipient of the GSBA Partnership Award for this year. At the board meeting on December 9, 2025, R B Tucker and his staff accepted the GSBA award from Superintendent Stevie Harden and Board Chairman Jeremy Cox. South Central Primary Care staff were there as well to accept this award for their hard work on establishing and managing our school clinics. Thank you to SCPC for everything you do to better the lives of our community through your healthcare excellence.
At the September 9, 2025 meeting of the Ben Hill Board of Education, the Board voted to nominate South Central Primary Care as the recipient of the Partnership Commendation recognition program award as sponsored by the Georgia School Board Association.
On February 23, 2023, a ceremony was held for the opening of the Hurricane Health Center at Ben Hill Middle School. This project began with conversations with Emory University Department of Pediatrics and the Department of Education. The opening of school-based health care centers has been going on in Georgia for a few years now to help create better healthcare for the students in rural Georgia. The mission is to make sure that all children in the public system have available access to care and be seen by a medical person if not feeling well. A grant was awarded to Ben Hill County School District for the planning of the school-based health clinic in an existing school. The Department of Education awarded South Central Primary Care, the medical agent for Hurricane Health Center, a grant to remodel a place within the school district. In 2025, another grant was awarded to Ben Hill County School District for the opening of another Hurricane Health Center with South Central Primary Care, as the medical agent, at Fitzgerald High School College & Career Academy.
The opening of the health centers is a great asset to our school and students. The students are able to be seen during school at the early onset of their medical problems and return to school quicker and more efficiently. A mental health program is also being offered for our students as well. These centers are open daily at BHMS and FHSCCA.
Way to go Canes!
