Hilda Erika Alvarado

Richard Fuentes Castillo Sr.

Richard Fuentes Castillo Sr. 91 of Odessa, passed away Wednesday April 15, 2026, at his Residence.

Richard was born in Balmorhea, Texas, to Julian Castillo and Julia Fuentes. He later made Odessa his lifelong home, building a life rooted in family, hard work, and the familiar comfort of the southside’s local cantinas.

He spent 40 dedicated years working as a Plant Operator at General Tire, where he was known affectionately as “Richie.” His humor, loyalty, and easygoing nature earned him lifelong friendships and the respect of everyone who worked alongside him.

On November 9, 1959, Richard married the love of his life, Gloria, and together they shared many devoted years. After her passing in December 2006, Richard continued to carry himself with the same energy, humor, and youthful spirit that defined him throughout his life.

He found joy in the simple routines of his days such as mornings at McDonald’s, afternoons at the park, and selling second‑hand items to anyone he could find. Richard had a gift for making a dollar and an even greater gift for not spending one. From P*eWee, to Brownie, to Harley and finally Logan, he took pride in caring for each family dog and the companionship they brought into his life and home. He loved celebrating his great grandchildren’s birthday parties and being surrounded around his family during holidays, moments that filled him with pride and joy. He spent countless hours playing with his granddaughters Julia, Sophia, Amelia, and Cecilia, who brought him endless happiness and kept his heart young. His one wish was to live long enough for his granddaughters to remember him — and that wish came true.

Richard is preceded in death by:

His parents Julian & Julia CastilloHis wife Gloria CastilloHis daughter Nancy GallardoHis great‑granddaughter Aria Belle Castillo

Richard is survived by a large and loving family, including:

Children: Ricardo Castillo (Nancy), Jose Castillo, Monica Hinojos (Fabian)Grandchildren: Ricky Castillo, Ronnie Castillo, Valerie Kral, Robert Gallardo, Julia Rose, Sophia Hinojos, Amelia Hinojos and Cecilia HinojosGreat‑Grandchildren: Kalyssa, Danielle, Ricardo IV, Aaleyna, Aivyn, Ari’elle, Acyn, Jireh, and Amaris, BrandonHis legacy continues through each of them — in their stories, their laughter, and the strength of the family he helped build.

Johnnie Mae Carter

Johnnie Mae was born in Clay County, TX, to Jessie Mae (Williams) and Johnny Arthur Walker on February 9, 1934. She graduated from Dunbar High School in Lubbock, TX, in 1952, and pursued a career in service and nursing as an LVN. After completing career courses, she was assigned to the neonatal unit at Medical Center Hospital in Odessa, TX, where she remained until 1978. She took a hiatus from her work to support young women but returned to the Medical Center in 1979 and remained there until her retirement in 1994.

Johnnie Mae was a devout Christian woman and a charter member of Freedom Missionary Baptist Church in Odessa, TX. She introduced her family to Christ and raised them to be faithful at St. Matthew Baptist Church, Odessa, TX, where they spent many years worshipping together. As they grew in both faith and love, her guidance and guardianship were consistent. She attended bible study weekly at the senior citizen center and was very active in ALL church activities, not only at her home church but also at many other churches across Odessa. She was a member of the Citywide Mission. She started as a driver for “Meals on Wheels” in the late 90s and did so until 2023. She was a member of the Castanettes Social Club. Worth, TX; 3 special daughters: Sherley Taylor of Odessa, TX, Doris Faye Smith of Amarillo, TX, and Marilyn Foster of Longview, TX; special son: Leroy Hutson of Marshall, TX; 17 grandchildren, 47 great-grandchildren, and 37 great-great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, and other friends.

The Celebration of Life service has been set for 11Am Saturday April 18, 2026, at Living Vision Ministries 325 S Grandview Ave Odessa, TX 79761 with Rev Donald Flinn sharing the eulogy.

Buril will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.

She never met a stranger, and she loved to talk. She always had her own opinions and was very willing to share. If a specific opinion needed emphasis, she was not above using “adjectives” – which in her mind equaled “…a good cussin.”
