Ralph VanderMel Obituary

Ralph G. VanderMel, 88, of Odon, Indiana, passed away on Tuesday, May 24, 2022 at Ketcham Memorial Center in Odon. Ralph was born on May 26, 1933 in Belding, Michigan to Harold and Mabel (McAlexander) VanderMel. Ralph married Clara B. ‘Jean’ (Geisler) VanderMel on September 16, 1961.

Ralph served in the US Navy during the Korean War era. He worked in manufacturing for a plastics factory before retiring in 1996. Ralph enjoyed woodworking, painting, playing guitar and the organ.

Family left to cherish the memories of Ralph include: his wife, Jean VanderMel; two sons, Rick (Linda) Steele of Ionia, MI and Jeff (Debbie) VanderMel of Odon; five grandchildren, Carmen (Tony) Ferguson, Aaron (Jessica) Steele, Sarah (Justin) Hammond, Hannah (Nate) Gingerich, Lilly (Justin Fox) VanderMel; five great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; brother, Phil VanderMel and sister, Sandy VanderMel, both of Michigan.

Ralph was preceded in death by: his parents; one son, Ron Steele; one sister, Betty Lund; two brothers, Paul and George VanderMel.

There will be no public viewing or services. Ralph will be laid to rest in Walnut Hill Cemetery in Odon at a later date, with military rites provided by the Odon VFW Post #9627.

Beulah G. Stafford, 97, of Odon, Indiana, went to Heaven peacefully, on Tuesday, May 3, 2022, at her residence in Odon, Indiana. She was born in Fernald, Iowa on September 14, 1924, to Edmon A. and Osa H. (Nelson) Marshall. She married Rex Stafford on September 9, 1951.

Beulah was a key punch operator for IBM, she was a member of the Odon United Methodist Church, Order of Eastern Star Chapter #341 for 59 years, past Worthy Matron twice. She was also an assistant boy scout and girl scout leader and wanted to see as many children as possible learn to swim.

Beulah loved life, the Lord, and her family. She would always say “Family First.” She enjoyed fishing as many will remember seeing her at the farm pond on Old Hwy 58. She also enjoyed camping with friends and family, campfires, water skiing. She pulled many skiers on lake Greenwood and Rough River; KY were her favorites. Rex and Beulah were attached at the hip, although he was tall and she was short they were step by step in their hobbies including gun club, boat club, camping.

Family left to cherish the memory of Beulah include: one son, Max E. (Darla Simmons) Stafford of Loogootee, IN; one daughter, Esther Stafford of Shawnee, KS; three grandchildren, Sam (Shelly) Hall, Sarah (Michael) Browning and Evan Calhoon; five great-grandchildren, Elaine, Kyler, Caroline, Meredith and Emma.

Beulah was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Rex Stafford, one daughter, Carol Hall, three brothers and five sisters.

Funeral services for Beulah will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, May 10, 2022, at the Odon United Methodist Church in Odon with Pastor Debbie Payne officiating. Beulah will be laid to rest in Raglesville Cemetery, Raglesville, IN.
Family and friends may call from 5:00 until 8:00 PM on Monday May 9, 2022, and from 10:00 AM until time of service on Tuesday at the Odon United Methodist Church.
There will be Order of Eastern Star Memorial held at 7:00 PM on Monday, May 9,2022.

Family request in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Raglesville Cemetery.

Ives Eugene Wehmeier, 86, of Sandborn, Indiana, passed away peacefully, on Tuesday, May 3, 2022 in Odon, Indiana. He was born on June 24, 1935 in Bruceville to William Wehmeier and Lydia (Held) Wehmeier. Ives married Marilyn K. Wehmeier on January 7, 1955.

Ives was a Journeyman Tool and Diemaker at General Electric in Linton, retiring in 1990.

Family left to cherish the memories of Ives include: one son, David (Bonnie) Wehmeier, three daughters, Carol (Douglas) Huffman, Sharon (Randall) Boberg and Karen Denise Miller; grandchildren, Ryan (Angie) Wehmeier, Greg (Emily) Huffman, Kathryn (Matthew) Turbek, Caleb Roche, Arthur Franklin (Alexandra) Roche, Madeline Roche, Lucas Miller and Joshua Miller; step-grandchildren, Kathryn Boberg and Jennifer (Joshua) Anthis, sixteen great-grandchildren.

Ives was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Marilyn K. Wehmeier; brothers, Doyle, Harry and Merlin Wehmeier; sisters, Hazel Jackson, Mildred Campbell, Helen Fairhurst, Ruby Dinkens.

Ives was a natural- born mechanic. He loved to tinker, especially on motorcycles, lawnmowers, and small engines. He also enjoyed spending time on his pickup tailgate sharing stories with friends.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 AM (EST) on Saturday, May 7, 2022 at Anderson-Poindexter Chapel in Linton with Rev. Jon Hemmer officiating. Ives will be laid to rest in Salem Cemetery.

Family and friends may call from 5:00 to 7:00 PM (EST) on Friday May 6, 2022 at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, Indiana Chapter, 8445 Keystone Crossing #135 Indianapolis, IN 46240. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.

Penny K. Dozier Obituary

Penny K. Dozier, 73, of Odon, Indiana, passed away on Saturday, April 16, 2022 at Ketcham Memorial Center in Odon with her loved ones by her side. She was born on December 4, 1948 in Terre Haute, Indiana to Leon and Betty (Beddow) Ward. Penny married Terry Dozier and had many wonderful years until his passing.

Penny worked as a Grocery Retail Supervisor until her retirement in 2014. She loved John Wayne, Elvis and most of all, Penny loved her dog, Charlie.

Family left to cherish the memory of Penny include: one daughter, Julie (David) Wintergerst; two grandchildren, Cody (Kylie) Francis and Jake (Chelsea) Francis; ; nine great-grandchildren, Morgan and Bruce Johnson, C.J., Zach, Haven and Atlas Francis, Mayson, Robin and Fynn Barnett; two brothers, Leon ‘Bud’ (Martha) Ward and James (Linda) Ward; one sister, Barbara (Gary) Turner and sister-in-law, Suzette (Gale) Whitlock.

Alice L. Slaven, 90, of Plainville, Indiana, passed away peacefully, with family by her side, on Thursday, April 14, 2022 at Odon, Indiana. She was born on March 27, 1932 on Easter Sunday in Montgomery, Indiana to Earl E. and Bessie E. (Sefrit) Wilson. Alice married James J. Slaven on April 12, 1952. They would have celebrated their 70th Wedding Anniversary this year.

Alice was a member of the Plainville United Methodist Church and worked at Walmart in her earlier years. She enjoyed working puzzles, spending time with her family and loved gardening. Alice loved to spend time studying her Bible. She was known for her unique sense of humor.

Family left to cherish the memory of Alice include: five daughters, Debbie Bickley of Odon, twins, Dena (Alan) Linneweber and Tena Gieselman, both of Newburgh, Tammy Slaven of Sarasota, FL and Marsha Slaven of Washington; grandchildren, Eric Linneweber, Kelsie Linneweber, Cody Slaven and Marlee Gieselman; great-granddaughter, Hailey Grace Slaven.

Alice was preceded in death by: her parents; her husband, James Slaven; twin sons, Ronald and Donald; son-in-law, James Bickley; brothers, Dale Wilson, Clifford Wilson and Earl Wilson; sisters, Juanita Williams and Irene Hinkle.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, April 19, 2022 at Meng Family Funeral Home in Odon with Jeff Williams officiating. Alice will be laid to rest in Sugarland Memory Gardens in Washington.

Family and friends may call from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Monday, April 18 and from 9:00 AM until the time of service at 11:00 AM on Tuesday at the funeral home.

Robert 'Bo' O'Neill Obituary

Robert E. ‘Bo’ O’Neill, 67, of Elnora, Indiana, passed away on Sunday, February 6, 2022 at his home. He was born on December 14, 1954 in Washington, Indiana to Ambrose and Pauline B. (Reubelt) O’Neill. Robert married his loving wife, Glenda S. (Norris) O’Neill on May 12, 2000.

Robert was a North Daviess Football Coach for 25 years and was awarded the 2022 Semper Fidelis Coach Award from the Marines. He was commended for creating a legacy of Intentional Leadership - lasting tradition through selfless commitment to team and community. The Semper Fidelis Award represents honor courage and commitment. He worked as an Electronic Technician at Crane, retiring in March 2020.

Family left to cherish the memory of Robert include: his wife, Glenda O’Neill; son, Barney (Audra) O’Neill of Farlen; daughter, Racheall (Joe) Lengacher of Odon; step-daughter, Ashley Pruett of Rocky Mount, VA; grandchildren, Cassidy, Alexander, Amelia, Abraham, Dakota, Keegan, Ainsley, Aiden, Quincy and Demetri.

Gennie L. Matthews, 79, of Elnora, Indiana, passed from this life, with loving family by her side, on Saturday, November 27, 2021 at her home. She was born in Washington, Indiana on May 12, 1942 to Robert and Phyllis G. (Bennington) Chambers. Gennie married her loving husband, Richard Joe Matthews on January 19, 1964.

Gennie was a member of the Elnora Christian Church. She worked as a secretary at CFS Fertilizer Plant and also ran several cafes.

Family left to cherish Gennie’s memory include: two sons, Allen (Lisa) Harrell and Douglas (Michelle) Matthews; two daughters, Sheila (Larry) Hicks and Marquita; granddaughter, Whitney (David) Sokola; grandson, Dustin (Adyson) Matthews; great-grandson, Vincent Sokola; brother, Byron (Chris) Chambers and sister, Tammie Miley.

Carl Michael ‘Mike’ Trueblood, 71, of Newberry, Indiana, passed away on Sunday, November 7, 2021 at his home. He was born on January 19, 1950 in Odon, Indiana to Carl and Donna (Farren) Trueblood. Mike married the love of his life, Susan (Beasley) Trueblood on February 16, 1969.

Mike was a US Navy Veteran and a member of the Odon Lions Club. He retired in 2006 after having spent many years working on road construction.

Family left to cherish the memory of Mike include: one son, Adam (Kacie) Trueblood of Montgomery; one daughter, Cassie (Braden Pence) Trueblood of Shoreline, Washington; grandchildren, Frances Trueblood and Kaebri Trueblood; one brother, Howard (Linda) Trueblood; four sisters, Pat Malone, Nancy Malone, Linda Horn and Diana Sheetz.

Mike was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Susan Trueblood.

Paula Kay Fortner, 74, of Vincennes, Indiana, formerly of Odon, went to Heaven on Thursday, October 28, 2021 at Lodge of the Wabash in Vincennes. She was born on June 11, 1947 in Washington, Indiana to William and Effie (Chastain) Walls.

Paula was a member of the Bethel Baptist Church in Greenfield. She worked for many years as a Home Health Aide. Paula was a sweet lady and those blessed to know her will miss her.

Jenny (Virginia R.) Blocksom, 95, of Elnora, Indiana, went peacefully to Heaven on Thursday, September 16, 2021, at Ketcham Memorial Center in Odon. She was born on March 6, 1926, in Elmore Township in Daviess County, Indiana to Charles and Eva (Keene) Campbell. Jenny married Boots (Robert Bruce) Blocksom on June 16, 1946.

Jenny was a member of the Elnora Christian Church. She was a homemaker and loved being a wife and mother.

Family left to cherish the memory of Jenny are two daughters: Emily Blocksom of Bloomington, and Nancy (Paul) Albertson of Odon.

Jenny was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Boots Blocksom, son Timothy D. Blocksom, brothers Paul and Marcus Campbell, sisters Irene Sheetz, Pearl Hasler, and Mary Rose Hagaman.

There will be no public viewing or services. Jenny will be laid to rest in Elnora Fairview Cemetery.
