Jim R. Salsman

Jim R. Salsman, 97, of Grant, Nebraska, passed away on October 21, 2025, at the Independence House at Coddington in Lincoln.

Jim was born on November 27, 1927, on the family farm near Imperial, Nebraska, to J.I. and May (Cowherd) Salsman. He attended country school and then graduated from Perkins County High School in 1946. Following graduation, Jim worked with his dad on the family farm. After which, Jim proudly served his country in the U.S. Air Force until his discharge in April 1950.

On April 1, 1951, Jim married Beulah Joyce Barry at the Grant United Methodist Church. Together they made their home on the family farm south of Grant, raising three children-Rick, Merry, and Ron. Jim and Joyce shared a love of flying, logging over 1,000 hours in the air as members of the Flying Farmers, traveling to events across the country in Jim's airplane. Earning his instrument flight rating was one of Jim's proudest achievements.

Over the years, Jim and Joyce enjoyed participating in bowling leagues and card clubs. They loved to go dancing and were devoted fans of their local high school teams and the Huskers, and they treasured the many cruises they took with dear friends. They cherished every opportunity to spend time with family, finding great joy in being with their grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Jim had a passion for technology and always enjoyed having the latest technology. He loved visiting with friends-and even strangers-and always had a story to tell, bringing laughter to everyone around him.

A lifelong farmer, Jim dedicated his life to agriculture. He took great pride in his crops and cattle. He served on the Grant Co-op Board for many years, and was a lifelong member of the Grant United Methodist Church and the Masonic Lodge.

A loving son, brother, father, uncle, grandfather, and great-grandfather, Jim was a blessing to all who knew him. We were so fortunate to have been loved by him. He will be remembered as a man of faith, family, and quiet integrity-a true gentleman devoted to those he loved, especially his beloved wife, Joyce, who preceded him in death in 2019.

He was also preceded in death by his parents; sister, Evalyn (Arnold) Kirkegaard; brother, Charley (Doralyn) Salsman; and son-in-law, Mike Zoellner.

Kenneth Edward Bieber

KENNETH EDWARD BIEBER, 87 of Julesburg, CO, passed away on Wednesday, October 15, 2025, at UC Hospital Authority in Aurora, CO.

Kenneth was born on August 4, 1938, in Loveland, Colorado, to Rudolph and Marie (Moore) Bieber. Kenneth attended school in Sedgwick, Colorado, and graduated from Sedgwick High School in 1956.

Kenneth proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1956 to 1959.

After returning to Sedgwick, Kenneth worked at the Sugar Factory in Ovid and took on various odd jobs. Eventually, he joined the Sedgwick County Road and Bridge department, where he worked for 40 years before retiring in 1998. Following his retirement, Kenneth spent many years as the groundskeeper at Hillside Cemetery.

Kenneth married Alta Christine Dickinsen on June 10, 1962, at the Lutheran Church in Lodgepole, Nebraska. They were blessed with two children, Kevin and Debbey, and raised their children on the farm just south of Julesburg, CO.

Kenneth enjoyed collecting various antiques. He spent most days in his two workshops, where he worked on small motors, golf carts, and lawn mowers. Kenneth and Alta preferred to handle their own home maintenance, and they even shingled their house together.

Kenneth and Alta loved to travel, and their memorable trips to Hawaii to visit Debbey and her family were a highlight of their adventures. One of Kenneth's favorite destinations was Branson, Missouri, where he made several visits. He always looked forward to summer trips with his mom and sister.

Eunice I. Warner

EUNICE I. WARNER, 93, of Kearney, passed away October 15, 2025, at Homestead Assisted Living in Kearney.

Eunice was born on Christmas Eve, December 24, 1931, in rural Gosper County, Nebraska, to Lester and Nellie (Puls) Bowers. She grew up on the family farm near Holbrook, where her father farmed with horses for many years, eventually being the last to adopt tractor farming in the area. Eunice attended a one-room country school through eighth grade before graduating from Holbrook High School in 1948. She often recalled those early years fondly-the dust clouds rolling in the distance, making mud pies in the corn crib, and learning to play pinochle with her classmates.

In 1950, Eunice married Joe E. Warner. The couple first made their home in Holbrook, where Joe worked at the Co-op station and Eunice worked at a grocery store. They later lived in Hastings, where Joe worked at the Hastings Ammunition Plant, and their daughter, Sonia were born. In the mid-1950s, they moved to McCook, where their children, Sally and Doug, were born. Through the years, Eunice and Joe also made homes in Imperial and Kearney.

Eunice worked for several years as a receptionist for the Anderson-Divan-Cottrell insurance firm in Kearney and part-time at Herberger's. Beyond her career, Eunice gave generously of her time-serving on election boards, volunteering at First Lutheran Church, and participating in the Kearney Envoys of the Chamber of Commerce. She was a longtime member and secretary of her church's Gloria Circle.

Eunice loved card games and proudly joked that she played cards eight days a week. She also enjoyed music, crafts, word search puzzles, and time with friends at both Kearney Manor and the Peterson Senior Center. She lived at Kearney Manor for 20 years. The last 3 she lived at Homestead Assisted Living, where they took great care of her and loved her witty sayings and direct conversation.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and brother, Ted Bowers.

Survivors include her daughters, Sonia (Walt) Altman of Sebring, FL, and Sally (Doug) Ferguson of Kearney; son, Doug (Rachelle) Warner of Elm Creek; four grandchildren, Pat (Sara) Ferguson of Omaha and Cole Ferguson of Kearney, Megan Warner of Gretna and Luke Warner of Norfolk; and three great-grandchildren, Noah, Stella, and Delilah Ferguson, along with many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, October 21, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at First Lutheran Church ELCA in Kearney, with interment at Holbrook Cemetery. Visitation will be on Tuesday morning at the church beginning at 9:00 a.m.

Memorials are established to First Lutheran Church in memory of Eunice.

Robert Wayne Liggett

ROBERT LIGGETT, of Ogallala, passed away October 9, 2025, at Great Plains Health in North Platte.

Robert was born in Ogallala, Nebraska, to Harold and Betty (Hudson) Liggett. He attended school in Ogallala and spent much of his life in the area.

Robert had a great sense of humor and was ornery in the best of ways, always ready with a joke or a good-natured jab. He loved to fish, and like any good fisherman, he developed a talent for telling "fisherman's tales."

Robert's father was a truck driver and owned Liggett Brothers, so from a young age, he was drawn to the world of trucking. He spent much of his free time hanging around the truck stop, where he enjoyed visiting with friends over coffee and watching the rigs come and go. Though Robert never became a truck driver himself, he had a lifelong love for trucks and the people who ran them. In the old days, Robert could often be found at Liggett Bros. helping with small jobs-airing up tires, changing oil, and lending a hand where he could. In later years, Robert worked at the truck stop and the old Holiday Inn, where he washed dishes.

Robert loved good food, a good laugh, and good company. He never married, but he loved to give good-natured attention to the ladies. Robert always had a soft spot for his dogs, and it was rare for him not to have one by his side. He often enjoyed taking walks around town with them.

He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Edith Liggett.

Survivors include his sisters, Linda (Todd) Hudson of Ogallala and Cathy Liggett of Ogallala; nieces, Charlotte (Leila) Hudson of Ogallala, Tonya (Edward) Bassett of Ogallala, and Shianne Stotler of Ogallala; great nephews, Zachary, Matthew, Cole, Aiden, and Jaxson; and many other relatives and friends.

Cremation was chosen, and a private family service will be held at a later date.

Jeremy Keith Kudrna

Jeremy Keith Kudrna, 52, of Springfield, Missouri, passed away on April 11, 2025.

Jeremy was born on August 29, 1972, in Denver, Colorado, to Jean (Magnuson) and Dale Kudrna. His early years were spent in several communities — attending kindergarten in Arvada, Colorado, first grade in Jamestown, North Dakota, and later in Ogallala, Nebraska. Jean, Jeremy, and his older sister, Melanie, moved to Little Rock, Arkansas, where Jeremy graduated from high school.

After graduation, Jeremy moved with his mother to Springfield, Missouri, where he spent most of his adult life. He worked in the maintenance department at Hobart Appliance, where his wide range of technical skills made him an invaluable part of the team. Jeremy was a man who could fix just about anything — welding, electrical work, plumbing, and construction came naturally to him. He even converted an old rusted tank into a functional diesel fuel tank.

In April of 1995, Jeremy married Julie Cline, and together they made their home in Springfield. Their union was blessed with two children, Matt and Samantha. Jeremy and Julie shared many years together, raising their family and building a life in the Ozarks. They purchased property where they began raising cattle, with Jeremy building fences, working the land, and establishing the farm from the ground up with Julie's help.

Jeremy was an outdoorsman and sportsman who loved hunting and fishing and belonged to a local shooting club. He enjoyed working on projects at the local Legion Club and was known for his skill as a pool player, competing with their team in Springfield. Jeremy loved football season and gathering with friends for games. He was a dedicated life-long Dallas Cowboys fan, and also followed the Kansas City Chiefs.

He had a generous heart, always ready to help his neighbors and friends. During the pandemic, he helped prepare a friend's home for his return from the hospital, adapting the house for his special health needs. Jeremy and Julie's circle of close friends — Shane & Jennifer, Rick & Earl — among many others, were like extended family to them. He valued their friendship deeply and the time they shared over the years.

Those who knew Jeremy remember his intelligence, resourcefulness, and mechanical talent. Whether it was repairing something, starting a new project, or helping someone in need, he approached every task with determination and creativity.

Survivors include his children, Matt Kudrna and his wife, Bailey of Waco, TX, and Samantha Gray of Waco, TX; his grandchildren, Owen and Clark of Waco, TX; his mother, Jean Magnuson of Ogallala; and his father, Dale (Marie) Kudrna of Mesa, AZ. He is also survived by his siblings: Melanie (Jerry) Meyer of Little Rock, AR, Angie (Leo) Martinez of Firestone, CO, Laurie Adams of Firestone, CO, and Doug (Linda) Kudrna of Mead, CO; nieces and nephews, Jessica and Tyler Martinez, Stephanie Adams, and Kenzie and Kellan Kudrna; cousins, Gerri (Tommy Joe) Miller, Jeani Davis, KD Tausan, and Crystal (Chad) Moore — who were like siblings to him; and his father and mother-in-law, Marvin and Shelley Cline; special friends and mentor, Ralph and Linda Douglas; along with numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Julie Kudrna; his grandparents, DeWayne and Marvel Magnuson, and Frank and Josephine Kudrna; and his aunt, Linda Tausan.

No funeral services or inurnment are planned at this time.
