Robert John Biel

Robert "Bob" Biel, 78, of Ogallala, Nebraska, passed away peacefully on March 25, 2026, in Kenesaw, NE.

He was born on April 3, 1947, in Omaha to Elmer and Anita (Sass) Biel. He was baptized on June 22, 1947, and later confirmed in his faith on March 26, 1961, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Ogallala. Bob was raised on the family farm northeast of Ogallala, where he developed a lifelong love of farming and working with his hands. He "retired" in the spring of 2023 but never quit working on his farm.

Bob graduated from Ogallala High School with the Class of 1965. He went on to attend the University of Nebraska - Lincoln until he enlisted in the service. He proudly served his country in the Army National Guard from 1967 to 1972, earning the designations of mechanic and sharpshooter..

On February 13, 1971, Bob was united in marriage to Geraldine "Gerri" Grigsby at St. Paul Lutheran Church. To this union, three children were born: James (Jim), Andrew (Andy), and Julie. Bob and Gerri made their home on the Biel family farm, where they raised their children and built a life rooted in hard work, faith, and family. Bob and his sons, Jim and Andy, would farm together for several years. Though Bob and Gerri later divorced in June of 2012, each continued to support their children and grandchildren independently.

A true farmer at heart, Bob enjoyed building and repairing farm machinery and was always willing to lend his mechanical skills where needed. He had a special fondness for John Deere tractors and proudly owned a John Deere 4430 tractor-pulling tractor from 1974 to 1979, where he pulled in the Off the Farm Class. He would use this tractor for many years after as a farm tractor. He would always say, " Nothing Runs Like a Deere" and " Green Means Go." He enjoyed attending tractor pulls, camping in the mountains, hunting, and John Wayne movies. In later years, one of his greatest joys was attending the activities and events of his grandchildren.

Bob will be remembered for his love of John Deeres, the land, his mechanical talents, and the pride he took in his family.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer and Anita Biel; his son, Andrew "Andy" Biel; and his brother, William "Bill" Biel.

Janet Rose Williamson

Janet Rose Williamson, 85, of Pearland, Texas, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loved ones, on March 21, 2026. Janet was born on March 25, 1940, in Holyoke, Colorado, to Herman and Dora Tatum. The family later moved to Ovid, Colorado, where at the age of 14 she met the love of her life, Robert Williamson. Their love began in their youth and grew stronger over the years. One of Janet's greatest joys and probably worries was supporting Bob during his college days as a bull rider. The two were then married on July 21, 1963, and began their life together in Hereford, Texas. After several moves along the way, Janet and Bob eventually settled in Sidney, Montana, where they raised their two daughters. Their children meant everything to them. Janet started her career as a teller at Stockman Bank in 1977 and retired after 28 years as Head Teller, where she was known for her dedication, warmth and friendly smile. When their daughters, Jana and Robin, later made their homes in Texas, Janet and Bob followed after retirement to be near family and to watch their grandchildren grow. Janet and Bob seized the opportunity to travel and explore the world after retirement, sharing these journeys with family and special friends. Janet was preceded in death by her parents, Herman and Dora Tatum, her sisters Judy Stone and Joyce Carr. She is survived by her beloved husband, Robert Williamson; her daughters, Jana (Richard) Guhl and their children Brandon (Sydney) Guhl, Katie (Alex) Boreman, and Kyra (Sterling Smith) Guhl; and Robin (James) Quinton and their children Emma Quinton and Karsten Quinton; as well as her sister, Jean (James) Engelker.

Janet was the image of courage and strength to those around her. As a breast cancer survivor, she did not let much slow her down. Janet found her greatest joys in time spent with her family and out on the golf course, she built lasting friendships and created cherished memories. Retiring on the golf course was a dream come true for Janet and Bob and she was very involved with the Women's Golf Association and served as president in 2012 and organized the 9-holers group. Anyone who knew Janet knew her for her famous sugar cookies, which she lovingly made and shared with friends and family. She was always happy to pass along her recipe, continuing a tradition of kindness and sharing.

Though she loved golfing, baking, and reading, Janet's most treasured role was that of grandmother. She delighted in every moment spent with her grandchildren, whether traveling through Europe together, celebrating their milestones, or simply sharing laughter and baking cookies. She never missed a chance to spoil them and took great pride in all they accomplished. Janet will be remembered for her kindness, her humor, and her unwavering love for her family. She was a devoted wife, a loving mother, and a proud grandmother. We could not have asked for a better one, and she will be deeply missed every day. Her memory will live on in the hearts of all who loved her.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, March 27, 2026 at 10:00 am, at Epiphany Lutheran Church in Pearland, Texas. Visitation will be before and a luncheon to follow.

Donald Earl Alexander

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Donald Earl Alexander (age 91) on Friday, March 20, 2026, just 11 days before his 92nd birthday. He passed away at Melissa Memorial Hospital in Holyoke with his loving family by his side.

Don was born to Esther Lavina (Runyan) and George Earle Alexander on March 31, 1934, on the family farm north of Ovid, Colorado. Don was the youngest of 3 children, joining Dorothy and Richard.

Don was part of the Ovid Red Devils completing the 10 th grade before entering into the workforce. He received a Certificate of Achievement from the Boys and Girls 4H Club for completing the 5th year's requirements of the Sugar Beets Club in 1949. He was a member of the Lion's Club. He was a member of the original Platte Valley Customs, worked as a farmhand on various farms in Ovid, Julesburg, and Big Springs. He also worked at the sugar beet factory in Ovid, worked as a custodian at both the Ovid and Julesburg Schools, had an auto repair shop, installed pivot irrigation, and was a city cop in Julesburg. Although he was a man of many trades, Don was mostly known for creating the legacy of D & J Cafe with his wife Jacque on February 4, 1977. After leaving the cafe, Don continued his love for farming, finishing his career helping Jim and Jennifer on Schwartz Farms.

Don was inducted into the Army on May 25 th , 1955, completed basic combat training, spent a month in the infirmary with a back injury sustained outside of military training and was honorably discharged on November 16, 1955.

Don loved his family first and foremost, but also loved farming, square dancing, cars, weekend camping trips, and playing card games with friends and family throughout the years.

Don was a man of quiet strength - the kind you didn't have to question because you could feel it. He didn't seek attention or praise, yet he earned deep respect simply by being who he was: dependable, diligent, and true to his word. He understood the value of showing up, doing what needed to be done, and caring for the people around him in ways both big and small.

Don is preceded in death by his parents, Esther and George, sister Dorothy, brother Richard, wife Jacquelyn Faith (Reeves) Alexander (November 12, 2005), Granddaughter Alyssa Faith, 3 angel (grand) babies and 2 angel (great grand) babies that he never got to hold.

Joan G. McGinley

Joan McGinley of Lisco, NE, passed on March 19, 2026.

The rosary will be on Friday, April 10, at 7 p.m. at St. Gall's Catholic Church in Lisco. The funeral Mass will be Saturday, April 11, at 10 a.m. at St. Gall's, with Fr. Bryan Ernest and Fr Mike McDonald concelebrating and Deacon Dixon Powers assisting, followed by a luncheon at the Lisco Legion Hall.

Joan was born on December 15, 1936, in Oshkosh, Nebraska. At only 10 days old, she rode the train to Los Angeles, CA, with her mother and sister to join her father. The family lived there until they moved back to Oshkosh before Joan's freshman year of high school.

Upon graduation, Joan worked as a secretary at Garden County High School and then attended college in Santa Rosa, California. Following college, she moved to Omaha, NE, where she lived and trained to become a flight attendant. Her young age prevented her from becoming a flight attendant at the time, so she moved to Denver, CO, with a close friend and worked as a secretary. She then moved to Cheyenne, WY, for flight attendant training and graduated at the head of her class. She first met her husband, Mike McGinley-a tobacco-chewing cowboy she knew nothing about- at the Lisco Saint Patrick's Day Dance. They married in 1959, and she became a devoted wife and mother living on a ranch North of Lisco.

Her kind and giving spirit served others far beyond the reach of her family. Showcased over the years, as the Busy Bee's 4-H club leader, time spent working in the Courtyard Cafe, embroidering t-shirts and sweatshirts for a local business, as a committed member of St. Gall's Altar Society, and as a dedicated employee of the Cabela's Return Department.

Joan's generosity, kindness, and service to others are her mark on this world and have left a lasting ripple of impact. She was a true friend, devout Catholic, caring wife, looked-up-to mother, outstanding grandmother, and valued member of the community.

She is preceded in death by her sister Merrilyn Nygren and parents, Merril and Mae Nygren; and an infant grandson, Tate Eaton.

We have much to learn from her life and legacy as those she leaves behind include: Her husband of 66 years, Mike McGinley, brother, Rick (Patty) Nygren nephews, Troy and Matt Nygren, son, Joe McGinley, daughter, Deann (Marshall) Eaton, granddaughters, Aspen (Logan) Dick, and Talyn Eaton. Daughter, Teri (Merrit) Linke, granddaughter, Rachel (Wade) Allnutt and great-grandchildren Macy and Charlie Allnutt, granddaughter, McCall (TJ) Knecht and great-granddaughters Ottillie and Presley Knecht, and grandson Jace (Morea) Linke, and great-grandson, Mack Linke.

Condolences may be shared at prairiehillsfuneralhome.com, where the Mass will be streamed live.

Beth L. Krems

Beth Louise Krems, 74, of Grant, Nebraska, went home to be in the arms of Jesus in the early morning hours of Wednesday, March 18, 2026.

Beth was born on September 23, 1951, in St. Francis, Kansas to Ira Addison Keever and Viola Belle (Wilson) Keever. She was raised in Sterling, Colorado, and graduated from Sterling High School (Class of 1969) before attending business college in Denver.

On January 29, 1972, Beth married the love of her life, Robert M. Krems, in Big Springs, Nebraska. Together they built a life centered on faith, family, and service-living in Denver and Littleton before settling permanently in Grant, Nebraska in 1981.

Beth's life was defined by her quiet strength, gentle spirit, and deep love for others. For more than 40 years, she opened her home to care for children, nurturing and guiding them as if they were her own. The impact she made on those families is lasting and immeasurable. She had a special way of making everyone feel safe, valued, and loved.

Her faith in Jesus was the foundation of her life. Beth lived that faith daily-through her kindness, humility, and servant's heart. She found great joy in music and shared this gift with the community, serving her churches by playing organ, piano, and being part of the music ministry teams.

Beth also had a deep love for reading and books, finding both joy and quiet reflection in the pages she read. She valued the peace that reading her Bible and devotionals brought to her daily life. In addition, she took pride in caring for her health and well-being, maintaining a commitment to fitness, reflecting her discipline and positive outlook on life. She could often be found power-walking around Grant or taking classes at the Fitness Center. She often took time along the way to visit and connect with friends throughout the community.

Beth cherished her family & friendships above all else. She especially loved attending her grandchildren's activities and events, often present in the stands or watching online, offering encouragement, and taking pride in each of their accomplishments. Time spent together -whether in quiet moments or joyful gatherings, or cooking large Holiday meals - were very important to her.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her in-laws, Melvin and Margaret Krems; sister-in-law, Jolene Krems; her brother, Mark E. Keever and her beloved son, David Anthony Krems.

She leaves behind her husband of 54 years, Robert Krems of Grant; her daughters, Pennie Krems of Ault, Colorado, and Kimberly (Wade) Hill of Ogallala; her daughter-in-law, Rebekah Krems of Omaha; her treasured grandchildren, Steel (Abbie), Meeka, Korbin and Shelbie Hoke; Lila, Emelia, Viola, Sofia, and Alivia Hill; and Cooper Krems. She is also survived by her sisters, Donna Ohman, Carolyn (Ron) Brookman, Iola (Roger) Trautmann, and Heather Graves; her sister-in-law, Carol (Jim) King; and many nieces, nephews, and dear friends.

Beth will be remembered for her gentle heart, her steadfast faith, and the love she so freely gave. Her legacy lives on in the many lives she touched and in the family she cherished so deeply.

In all of her 95 years, she never ate the bread of idleness. At nearly 94 years old, Lyla was still driving tractors, and her favorite was pulling the grain cart during harvest. She was always willing to help wherever she might be needed.

Lyla was fantastic in the kitchen. Her baking was fabulous, especially her butter brickle and sour cream raisin pies, and homemade dinner rolls. Lyla's cinnamon rolls were a family favorite and always a compelling reason to visit.

When her grandchildren were born, a new dimension was added to her life. She cherished the time she spent with each of them and was so proud of them. Lyla enjoyed the simple pleasures of life: walking, following Nebraska volleyball, feeding her family, and visiting with her friends.

She was a longtime member of the Elsie Methodist Church and participated in church activities, including the funeral dinner committee and Bible studies.

In addition to her husband, Lyla was preceded in death by her daughter, Teresa, and siblings, Mildred Leonhardt, Lula Kennicutt, Ann Benben, Lola Fear, and Clarence Knoles.

Survivors include her children, Lorrena (Lee Roy) Becker of Lincoln, Josie (Dan) Hughes of Venango, Lana (Duane) Wood of Wallace, and Troy (Renee') Hahn of Elsie; nine grandchildren, Kaylyn and Matthew Hahn, Amy Becker, Ashley Colglazier, Tyler Hughes, Mandy Brenner, Michelle Dircksen, Ryan and David Wood; 11 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great-grandchildren, with one more on the way; her brother, Nyle Knoles of Wellfleet; along with many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Memorials are suggested to the Elsie Methodist Church in memory of Lyla. Condolences may be shared at bullocklongfuneralhome.com , where the services will be streamed live.

Funeral services will be held Monday, March 23, at 10:30 a.m. at the Elsie Methodist Church with Pastor Shanon Williams officiating. Burial will follow in the Elsie Cemetery.

Visitation will be held Sunday, March 22, from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. at the Bullock-Long Funeral Home in Grant.

Bullock-Long Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
