It's that time of year, where summer is starting to wind down and the seasons are starting to change, which always heralds the coming of cold and flu season.

One of my favorite remedies to be prepared and give the immune system a natural boost is Four Thieves Vinegar.

Legend has it that during medieval times a band of four thieves were going around during The Plague robbing graves and exposing themselves to the sickness, but somehow never became ill themselves. When they were finally caught they were given the option of a lesser punishment if they shared their secret, hence the recipe for Four Thieves Vinegar was born.

Traditionally, the original recipe was made with only a small handful of kitchen herbs, but recipes have evolved and been added to throughout the years. My recipe includes basic kitchen herbs and spices, such as sage, thyme, garlic, orange peel, rosemary, and peppercorns, with the addition of lavender, calendula, and bee balm for additional immune support and a touch of honey to sweeten up the apple cider vinegar.
