🧠 What is CBT—and how can it help?

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) focuses on the connection between our thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. By identifying unhelpful thought patterns and learning practical coping skills, CBT helps create lasting, meaningful change.

Our therapists use evidence-based CBT techniques to support clients in managing anxiety, depression, stress, and everyday challenges—at a pace that feels supportive and empowering.

🧠 Therapy vs. TikTok Advice
What’s real, what’s toxic, and what’s just trendy

Social media can make mental health feel more accessible—but not all advice online is helpful, accurate, or safe. While some content can normalize emotions or spark self-reflection, other trends can oversimplify complex issues, promote harmful labels, or encourage self-diagnosis without support.

Therapy is different.
✔ Evidence-based
✔ Ethical and confidential
✔ Personalized to you
✔ Guided by licensed professionals
✔ Focused on long-term growth—not quick fixes

At Psychological Preventative Health, PLLC, therapy isn’t about viral soundbites or one-size-fits-all solutions. It’s about understanding your story, building real coping skills, and supporting lasting change—at your pace.

✨ Mental health isn’t a trend. It’s healthcare. ✨

❄️ Into the bleak midwinter…

Winter can feel quiet, heavy, and isolating. Short days, cold weather, and slower routines can take a toll on mood, motivation, and emotional well-being. If this season feels harder than others, you’re not alone—and it’s okay to reach for support.

At Psychological Preventative Health, PLLC, we believe mental health care is just as important as physical health, especially during the winter months. Therapy can be a place to warm up, reconnect, and find steadiness—even in the bleak midwinter.

✨ Support is available. You don’t have to navigate this season alone.

Not everyone loves winter… and that’s completely valid. Shorter days, colder weather, and holiday pressure can take a toll on our energy, routines, and mental health.

If you’ve been feeling more tired, less motivated, or just “off,” you’re not alone. Seasonal shifts impact mood, stress levels, and even relationships.

Here are a few calm, meaningful ways to find pockets of joy in the colder months:
✨ Slow scenic drives through the canyon
✨ Warm drinks and quiet moments in local cafés
✨ Library days with your favorite books
✨ Walks along the Ogden River Parkway
✨ Trying a gentle indoor practice like yoga or climbing
✨ Wandering through winter markets and makers fairs
✨ Snowshoeing or exploring trails at your own pace

And if winter still feels heavy, we’re here to support you through it — without pressure, without judgment, and at a pace that feels right.

🇺🇸 Meet Daniel Ruesch – a U.S. Army veteran, dedicated social worker, and passionate advocate for healing and growth. Daniel served with the 82nd Airborne Division, where he learned the value of human connection and the resilience we all carry within. His military journey sparked a lifelong commitment to supporting others through life’s toughest challenges.

Daniel earned his Bachelor’s in Family Studies with a minor in Psychology from Weber State University and earned his Master of Social Work at Utah State University. He spent over three years working as a Registered Behavior Technician with individuals facing developmental challenges, helping them gain essential life and coping skills.

For the past five years, Daniel has worked at the Department of Child and Family Services (DCFS), where he now serves as a Child Protective Services supervisor. In this role, he works with families navigating crises like domestic violence, marital conflict, and substance use—always with a focus on safety, empathy, and strengthening family bonds. 💬

Daniel’s personal philosophy is grounded in his spirituality, guiding the love, compassion, and support he brings to every therapeutic relationship. Regardless of background or beliefs, he believes that how we treat one another is what matters most.

His mission is simple: To lift those whose hands hang low and walk beside them toward healing and hope. 🌿

She also brings lived experience and expertise in OCD and regularly incorporates ERP into her work with clients navigating anxiety, trauma, and obsessive thoughts. Her therapeutic style blends mindfulness, self-compassion, and evidence-based practices tailored to each person’s unique needs.

By day, Tami works as a school-based mental health therapist for Weber School District, supporting children, teens, parents, and staff. She also sees clients of all ages in private practice, offering group facilitation, parenting support, and mental health trainings.

🌟 Meet Kaylan Goodman – a Clinical Mental Health Counselor who believes, as Carl Rogers once said, “it’s an awfully risky thing to live.” For Kaylan, this quote isn’t just inspiration—it’s a guiding truth in her practice. Life brings both challenges and victories, and she’s here to support you through it all. 💬

With a background in substance abuse counseling and a deep passion for mental health, Kaylan brings warmth, empathy, and a strong sense of purpose to her work. 🌟 Meet John Wilson – a passionate and dedicated therapist with a strong focus on supporting teenagers as they navigate life’s toughest challenges. With years of experience as a high school therapist, John specializes in working with teens experiencing depression, anxiety, irritability, low motivation, life stress, attachment concerns, and relationship conflict. Whether your teen is deeply involved in extracurriculars or struggling to find the energy to get to school, John offers grounded, empathetic support. 💬

John empowers his clients through Emotion-Focused Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), CBT, DBT, and Solution-Focused approaches—helping them build healthy boundaries, develop self-awareness, and rediscover their sense of self-worth and balance.

Though adolescents are his specialty, John also works with young adults, individuals, single parents, and families. Before becoming a therapist, he worked in sales, business, and finance—earning his degree in Professional Sales from Weber State and offering financial coaching. That journey inspired him to pursue a Master’s in Social Work and dive deeper into guiding and supporting others.

John’s philosophy: Therapy is about human connection. It’s a safe space to process the past, understand the present, and build a future rooted in purpose and resilience.
