October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

🩷 Mammograms remain the gold standard in screening.

🩷 According to the US Preventative Services Task Force, breast cancer screening should start at age 40 for women at average risk until age 74.

🩷 The 5 year survival rate for women with localized breast cancer is around 99%

It’s never too late!

Remember: You're never too old to follow your dreams 🥹

LSU's 66-year-old freshman band member Kent Broussard is the perfect example of that. After retiring two years ago, Broussard set out to join LSU's band - a lifelong dream of his since he saw the Tiger Marching Band in person years ago.

Kent became an accountant and started a family, thinking he probably would never get to live out his lifelong dream.. until he retired and decided now was the perfect time!

Broussard had forgotten everything about playing the tuba after learning many years ago and trained for his audition, competing with those who are 40 years younger than he is. He didn't expect to make the cut, but he ended up getting through, and now he's the oldest member of the LSU band by 41 years 😅

When asked about the process, Kent said "The only thing you can do is fail. Your only failure is not trying." - and he's absolutely right 🙌

Bethany and Katie got to attend a skills conference in Orlando this weekend. While they may not use all the skills learned (don’t worry ortho), they are bringing back a wealth of knowledge.
