✨Midwife Spotlight✨

Taryn Goodwin
CPM, LM, ASM

Throughout the pregnancy and births of her children, Taryn developed an immense passion for pregnancy and birth. Taryn believes that every low risk family should have access to the midwifery model of care, should they desire. Taryn strives to keep the balance between holistic and modern midwifery saying: “Good midwifery care is a balance of knowing when to sit on your hands and when to use them.”

Taryn graduated Magna Cum Laude from The Midwives College of Utah and is a Certified Professional Midwife through the North American Registry of Midwives. Taryn has current certification for CPR and certification as a Neonatal Resuscitation Provider co-sponsored by the American Heart Association and the American Academy of Pediatrics. Taryn is also committed to having an inclusive midwifery practice supporting all families including BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, People of Color), LGBTQ+ family units, solo parents and more. Taryn recognizes the systemic injustice in our modern healthcare system and wishes to be an ally for change.

Taryn is a founder and co-owner of the Oklahoma City Birth Center.

Kait, our office manager, had the opportunity to give a tour of the Birth Center to a group of nursing students last week. They asked some really great questions and were so excited to be able to explore different options for families birthing in our area.

They spoke about how there’s a huge gap in education when it comes to nursing students being familiar with all kinds of birth preferences, what it looks like to have an out of hospital birth, and midwifery care as a whole.

Thank you to their amazing instructor for giving them such well rounded education opportunities. That’s exactly what we need in the community.💛

Why We Love Swedish Bars for Labor ✨

Swedish bars (aka wall bars or stall bars) are one of our favorite tools in the birth room — and here's why:

🤰 Support for Upright Positions: Staying upright in labor can help gravity do its thing! Swedish bars offer sturdy support for squatting, lunging, and leaning - all of which can encourage optimal fetal positioning and pelvic movement.

🤝 Partner Connection: These bars provide a perfect place for your birth partner to assist with counter-pressure, hip squeezes, or just offer hands-on support while you focus inward.

🌬️ Rhythmic Swaying: Holding onto the bars gives your body freedom to sway and move intuitively, helping to ease contractions and promote relaxation.

🧘‍♀️ Anchor for Rebozo & Body Work: We love using Swedish bars with a rebozo for gentle sifting, or to hang from during more intense moments - think of it as your own labor jungle gym!

💪 Empowerment & Movement: They encourage mobility and autonomy, helping you stay active and involved in your birth process.

Labor is movement and Swedish bars offer the freedom to move with strength, surrender, and support. 💗
