Day & Night…Let Help Arrive
Thanks To A Grant From Alzheimer's Association
Metropolitan Better Living Center, Inc. is honored to be the sole recipient in Oklahoma of the highly competitive Community Dementia Respite Innovation (CDRI) Grant awarded by the Alzheimer’s Association. This national grant, awarded to only 23 organizations across the country, empowers our center to expand our dementia-specific respite services into the evening hours, now operating until 10:30 p.m. This extended care model is intentionally designed to support caregivers during one of the most challenging times of day: the "sundowning" phase, when symptoms of Alzheimer’s and related dementias often intensify. By offering a safe, engaging, and compassionate environment during these late hours, we provide critical relief for caregivers while ensuring their loved ones receive person-centered, cognitively supportive care.
Through this grant, Metropolitan Better Living Center strengthens its mission to keep families together longer, reduce caregiver burnout, and delay unnecessary institutionalization. The evening respite program not only provides structured activities that calm and redirect dementia-related behaviors but also gives caregivers the time they need to rest, work late, or tend to personal responsibilities. This innovative approach addresses a significant gap in Alzheimer’s and dementia care, supporting caregivers who often feel isolated and overwhelmed during evening hours. Thanks to the Alzheimer’s Association and the CDRI grant, our community now has access to a transformative service that honors the dignity of those living with dementia while uplifting the well-being of those who care for them.
