March is Poison Prevention Awareness Month.

And some of the biggest dangers for pets? They're already in our homes.

Common household items like cleaning products, laundry pods, essential oils, and even over-the-counter medications can be extremely toxic to dogs and cats, even in small amounts.

A dropped pill.
An open cabinet.
A curious nose.

It doesn't take much.

Quick safety tips:
- Store medications high and secured
- Keep laundry pods out of reach
- Never give human meds unless directed by a vet
- Wipe up cleaning product residue before pets walk through

If you think your pet has ingested something toxic, call your vet immediately or contact ASPCA Animal Poison Control at 888-426-4435.

Prevention is protection. Let's keep Tulsa pets safe.

Great reminder from our OKMRC Stress Response Team!

Wildfires have burned thousands of acres across Oklahoma, and some fires remain uncontained.

But disaster impact is not measured in acres alone.

Wildfires disrupt routines, displace families, strain responders, and create emotional stress that can linger long after flames are out.

The Stress Response Team supports communities before, during, and after disasters by strengthening preparedness, resilience, and recovery. Psychological First Aid, responder support, and community education are part of how we help communities respond stronger.

Preparedness protects more than property. It protects people.

If your organization, school, or community group would like training in disaster behavioral health or Psychological First Aid, reach out to SRT at srt@oksrtinc.com

Stronger communities are built intentionally.

Here's an update to the fire weather threat for today. Bottom line: today is not a day to burn -- no matter where you are within Oklahoma and western north Texas. Make sure you do your part to prevent fires from starting!

02/24/2026

🚩 RED FLAG WARNING in effect TODAY across much of Oklahoma! Dry air + gusty winds + low humidity = extreme wildfire risk. A single spark can start a fast-moving fire.
What YOU can do RIGHT NOW:

🔥 NO outdoor burning — respect burn bans & skip campfires/debris burns.
🔥 Don't mow, use chainsaws, or park hot vehicles on dry grass.
🔥 Extinguish ci******es completely & dispose properly.
🔥 Clear dry leaves/debris from roofs, gutters, & around your home.
🔥 Have a "go" plan: pack essentials, know escape routes, & monitor alerts.

Stay safe, stay vigilant—report suspicious smoke immediately! Call 911 if you see fire. 💪

Ready to take your animal response skills to the next level???

Our Oklahoma Small Animal Response Team (SmART) is hosting an Emergency Animal Sheltering Training – FEMA Levels 2 & 3 designed for volunteers who want to expand their knowledge and step into more advanced roles during disaster responses involving animals.

⚠️ Prerequisite: You must have successfully completed the SmART Emergency Animal Sheltering Training – FEMA Level 1 Training to register for Levels 2 & 3.

Whether it’s severe weather, wildfires, or other emergencies, our animals need trained responders just as much as people do. This training will help you:

✅ Strengthen your skills in advanced shelter operations
✅ Build confidence in managing animal care during emergencies
✅ Learn leadership and coordination roles within a shelter setting
✅ Support safer, more efficient response efforts in your community

When disaster strikes, preparation makes all the difference…for families and their furry (scaly, feathered, and hooved) family members. 🐶🐱

We hope to see you there. More details at: www.OKMRC.org.

If you or someone you know is affected by the current Oklahoma wildfires, here are some great resources. Stay Safe!

There are multiple organizations that have stepped up to aid recent Oklahoma wildfire victims:

▶️ Oklahoma Cattlemen's Association Foundation has established a Fire Relief Fund to support cattle producers impacted by the recent wildfires in Northwest Oklahoma. Find more information and donate at okcattlemen.org.

▶️ Oklahoma Farm Bureau Foundation for Agriculture is also collecting donations to help recovery efforts for rural Oklahomans affected by the wildfires. Find more information and donate at okfarmbureau.org

▶️ Beaver County OK Conservation District is coordinating donations of hay for wildfire relief. Hay can be dropped off at the Hamilton Farm, west of Knowles, OK on Highway 64.

▶️ Laverne Fire Department is accepting donations of non-perishables food, feed, hay, fencing, and monetary donations and is in contact with volunteer fire departments throughout the area.

‼️ Oklahoma Department of Agriculture, Food, and Forestry reminds the public to use caution before bringing hay to northwest Oklahoma to prevent the spread of invasive fire ants. Find out if your county is under quarantine for fire ants on the USDA website https://loom.ly/jAg-Tv8

Beaneighbor.org, through the Oklahoma Healthcare Authority, provides access to local support including financial assistance, food pantries, medical care, and other free or reduced-cost help. Search for aid in your area at Beaneighbor.org.

🔥 Oklahoma Wildfires Update 🔥

Wildfires are impacting communities across Oklahoma, and conditions remain dry and windy in many areas. Our hearts are with everyone affected, and we’re grateful for the firefighters, emergency managers, public health partners, and volunteers working tirelessly to keep communities safe.

As a reminder:

✅ Stay informed through trusted local sources
✅ Follow evacuation orders immediately if issued
✅ Have your go-kit ready (medications, important documents, water, chargers)
✅ Check on neighbors — especially older adults and those with medical needs
✅ Avoid outdoor burning and properly dispose of ci******es — never toss cigarette butts on the ground or out of a vehicle window. Even one ember can spark a wildfire in these conditions.

Smoke can also impact air quality far beyond the fire area. If you’re sensitive to smoke, limit time outdoors and keep windows and doors closed when possible.

Preparedness isn’t just for tornado season, it’s YEAR-ROUND in Oklahoma! 💛

Livestock wildfire impact

If you are a livestock producer impacted by the wildfires in Beaver, Texas or Woodward counties, please ensure you are in contact with your county FSA office.

Now is a good reminder for all livestock owners about what to do before, during and after a wildfire:
