Breastfeeding During Ramadan 🤍🌙
Can I fast and continue nursing?
The answer is yes, it depends on your body, your baby and wellbeing.
If you choose to fast while breastfeeding, here are some supportive tips:
✨ Hydrate generously (water, coconut water, soups, milk).
✨ Prioritize nutrient-dense foods—protein, healthy fats, whole grains, fruits, and vegetables.
✨ Don’t skip your pre-dawn meal —include protein + fiber to help sustain energy.
✨ Rest when possible.
✨ Monitor baby for adequate wet diapers, contentment after feeds, and normal weight gain.
✨ Watch your own body for signs of dehydration (dark urine, dizziness, headaches, fatigue).
Some parents notice little to no change in supply. Others may see a temporary dip, especially if hydration or calorie intake is low. If supply decreases, increasing fluids, calories, and frequent nursing/pumping after breaking your fast can help.
