🌟 Meet Jennifer Hard, APRN, one of our dedicated providers at WounDynamics! 🌟

Jennifer began her educational journey by earning her first bachelor’s degree in Spanish from UCO in 2000. Driven by her passion for healthcare, she pursued her associate’s degree as a Registered Nurse from OSU-OKC in 2006 and later obtained her bachelor’s in nursing science from the University of Texas-Arlington.

For over a decade, Jennifer honed her skills in various hospital emergency departments, providing critical care to patients in need. In 2016, she earned her master’s in nursing science as a Nurse Practitioner from Simmons College in Boston and became board certified.

Before joining the team here at WounDynamics, Jennifer used her APRN skills in emergency rooms and urgent care clinics across the OKC metro area. Her passion for patient care and commitment to their overall health makes her an invaluable part of our team. She believes that being fully invested in her patients’ well-being is one of the most important steps toward healing.

Though Jennifer has traveled and lived in places like Costa Rica, Australia, and across the U.S., she now proudly calls Norman, Oklahoma home. We’re thrilled to have her expertise and compassion at WounDynamics as we strive to become a top wound care provider in the state!

🌟 What an amazing time we had at the 5th Annual Better With Age Fall Fun Day! 🍂

Hosted by Caregiver Magazine - Oklahoma, this incredible event took place on October 8, 2024, from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm at the Church of the Servant Event Hall. We were thrilled to see so many attendees enjoying the music, dancing, and exploring the over 90 exhibitors! From home health agencies to specialty clinics, the support for senior care was truly heartwarming.

A special thanks to all the businesses who sponsored and made this day possible. We also had some great give-aways, door prizes, and so much more.

Understanding Arterial Ulcers
Arterial ulcers, also known as ischemic ulcers, result from poor blood flow to the lower extremities. When arteries fail to deliver sufficient oxygen and nutrients, the skin and tissues suffer, leading to open wounds. Here’s what you need to know:
Symptoms:
- Appearance: Arterial ulcers have a punched-out, round shape with well-defined margins.
- Location: Commonly found between toes, on heels, outer ankles, or areas under pressure from walking or footwear.
- Depth: These wounds extend deep, often reaching underlying tendons.
- Color: The base is yellow, brown, grey, or black.
- Cool Extremity: The affected limb feels cool or cold, with little to no pulse.
- Skin Changes: Atrophic skin, hair loss, and a shiny, dry appearance.

🌟 Understanding Pressure Ulcers 🌟
Pressure ulcers, also known as bedsores or pressure sores, are injuries to the skin and underlying tissues caused by prolonged pressure on specific areas. These sores often develop over bony prominences and can be related to medical conditions or the use of devices. 💡
🔍 Causes and Risk Factors:
Pressure: When constant pressure restricts blood flow to the skin, tissues become vulnerable and may develop sores.
Friction: Fragile skin can be injured due to rubbing against clothes or bed linens.
Shear: Shear forces occur when skin and the surface below move in opposite directions.
Risk factors include immobility, incontinence, lack of sensation, advanced age, malnutrition, and anemia. 📉
⚠️ Complications: Untreated pressure ulcers can lead to cellulitis, bone and joint infections, cancer, sepsis, and muscle contractures. Early intervention is crucial! 🚑
🌿 Prevention Tips:
Reposition yourself frequently to relieve pressure.
Maintain good nutrition and hydration.
Quit smoking.
Use air or fluid-filled mattresses to reduce ulcer risk.
Care for perineum and genitalia, especially in patients with incontinence.
Hydrate and protect the skin with moisturizers and barrier creams. 🌼
