Ten years ago, Mike Schuster was diagnosed with glioblastoma, an aggressive brain cancer with a prognosis of just 12–14 months.

After multiple surgeries failed, he turned to an investigational treatment developed through OU Neurosurgery research.

That decision changed everything. ✨

Mike is now celebrating a decade of survivorship, becoming one of the rare patients to beat the odds and inspiring hope for future GBM treatments.

After a serious fall caused a brain bleed, baby Delilah received immediate care from OU Neurosurgery and has since made a full recovery.

Dr. Nicholas Sader, who speaks in the Fox25 feature, shared warning signs parents should never ignore.

“Having persistent nausea and vomiting, persistently sleepy, not acting their normal self, those would be types of things that would prompt coming to get evaluated in an emergency room right away,” Dr. Sader said.

We are grateful this family trusted their instincts and received the care Delilah needed when every moment mattered.

Watch the full story on Fox25 and learn more about the signs that require urgent evaluation.

Scoliosis is more common than many people realize.

It's a condition where the spine curves sideways, often forming an "S" or "C" shape, and its management is unique and evolving.

"Scoliosis is not caused by poor posture, heavy backpacks, or sports. With early diagnosis and the right care, whether it's monitoring, bracing, therapy, or surgery, most people live active, healthy lives. Regular screenings, especially during growth years, are essential." - Dr. Andrew Jea

Training to become a neurosurgeon is intense, and the mental, emotional, and physical demands can take a toll.

Our study in Surgical Neurology International found:

❤️ Nearly 50% of residents experience depression, anxiety, or burnout
❤️ 1 in 10 have reported thoughts of self-harm
❤️ Female residents, junior trainees, and those on active rotations are at higher risk

Wellness initiatives, structured learning time, and strong community support make a real difference.

You can help the next generation of neurosurgeons not just survive, but thrive.
