Heartland CPR American Heart Association (AHA) training in CPR, FirstAid+AED, BLS, ACLS & PALS, & Pet FirstAid+CPR CPR & First Aid training your way.
(1041)

High-quality, low-stress American Heart Association certification in BLS for Healthcare Providers, ACLS & PALS. We can come teach at a customer's location when they can put a group of eight or more together within the metro (other minimums apply statewide) and we provide everything for your training; AHA certification cards are valid for two years. We have several instructors working different schedules so we can accommodate just about any time of day, evening, or weekend requests. We can always accommodate individuals or smaller groups with multiple classes throughout the month which are open to the public at our office location near NW 122nd & MacArthur if you have those that don’t make it into training at your place due to scheduling or new hires that miss yours. A constantly updated schedule of those classes can be seen on our website. In general, we come completely self-contained so the customer needs only provide a place for training. We provide all the mandatory AHA texts and supplies already included in our standard pricing; there are no lists of things you must gather, no surprises later, and no difficulty finding your instructor should someone lose a card a year down the road and need proof of training. Cost is per participant since mandatory materials must be provided and instructor:participant ratios must be maintained. Keep in mind that groups of 16+ training/paying together get 10% off these rates . We also participate as a skills session center for AHA's online courses if you encounter those that are interested in doing a portion of their training online (although it should be noted that this blended learning option does not save time nor money, as that was not the AHA’s intent in introducing it). We distribute cards at the end of class or next business day when full payment has been made so you don’t have to wait 30 days for proof of certification. We can always accommodate individuals or smaller groups with multiple classes throughout the month which are open to the public if you simply want to give staff the flexibility to choose the class that best suits the individual participants. With the new AHA Science out recently and cost of mandatory materials skyrocketing, we just took our first price increase since 2007 and only the second since starting this business in 2003. We will find the solution that works best for the way your company operates whether it’s bringing training to your location(s) or accommodating your employees in classes at ours.

More about us!!!
In 2003, I traded my high-stress management job for dirty diapers and... lots of organizing. When I ran out of things to clean, my firefighter husband Brian came home with an idea.
People kept calling the fire station asking where to get CPR training. Nobody reliable existed. So we started teaching in our living room

✅ Knocked out a wall to make an office
✅ Built a custom house specifically for training (then got shut down by our HOA 😅)
✅ Opened our first brick & mortar in 2011
✅ Kept outgrowing every space
✅ Now in our best location that feels like home

The wildest part? Many of those original “living room students” from 2003 still train with us. They’ve sent their kids, their employers, their friends.
That small-town southern Oklahoma girl who was “just bored” has now helped train tens of thousands of Oklahomans to save lives.

If you’ve been with us since the beginning, drop a ❤️ in the comments. If you’re new here, welcome to the Heartland family.

❤️ February is American Heart Month ❤️
At Heartland CPR, we’re reminded that emergencies don’t come with a warning. Cardiac arrest can happen at home, at work, or out in the community — and knowing CPR can make all the difference.
This month is a great time to think about heart health and learn skills that could help save a life. CPR is simple, powerful, and something anyone can learn.
Be ready. Be confident. Be the one who steps in.

In the mid-1800s, as steam-powered fire engines became common, fire departments transitioned from hand-pulled engines to much larger wagons pulled by horses. Firehouses were often multi-story buildings: the stables with horses and equipment were on the ground floor, while sleeping quarters, kitchens, and sometimes hay storage were on the upper floors.

Architects and firemen installed narrow spiral staircases leading upstairs because these compact stairs were difficult or impossible for horses to climb, helping keep the animals where they belonged, with the equipment, not wandering into the firemen’s living spaces attracted by smells like cooking food.

However, spiral stairs created a new problem for the fire crews themselves. When the alarm sounded, dozens of firefighters had to race down tight, twisting stairs to reach the horses and engines below, which was slow and inefficient in an emergency.

In 1878, in Chicago’s Engine Company No. 21, a practical breakthrough occurred: a fireman named George Reid used a long wooden hay-lifting pole to slide from an upper floor to the ground faster than his colleagues on the stairs, inspiring Captain David B. Kenyon to install a permanent sliding pole. This allowed firefighters to descend directly and quickly to the apparatus floor, often saving precious seconds in getting the horses hitched and the engine rolling.

Once introduced, the fire pole spread rapidly across firehouses in the U.S. and later in other countries as a practical response innovation. By around 1880 the Boston Fire Department installed the first brass pole, and poles became a defining feature of many fire stations into the 20th century. Over time, as horses were replaced by motorized fire engines, the original need for spiral stairs to restrain horses disappeared.

Many modern stations now build single-story sleeping and apparatus floors or use safer alternatives like slides, but the legacy of those early architectural choices, spiral stairs to control horses and poles to speed descent, remains a fascinating part of firefighting history.
