Storm day game plan: stay steady, stay warm, protect your skin. ❄️🧊

With this once-in-a-decade snowstorm sweeping Oklahoma (and half the country), here are quick tips to help you move safely and keep your residual limb happy:

Before you head out (only if you must)

Traction matters: Use shoes/boots with real tread or add over-shoe ice cleats. Short steps = better balance (think gentle penguin walk).

Plan your path: Salt/sand steps and entryways; carry a small bag of sand/kitty litter for surprise ice.

Charge up: Keep microprocessor knees/feet fully charged; pack a power bank if you rely on apps or smart components.

Prosthetic & skin care in deep cold

Moisturize at night, not right before donning. Use a fragrance-free cream at bedtime; skip fresh lotion in the morning (it can increase shear).

Liner & sock hygiene: Keep a dry backup liner and extra sock ply with you. Swap out anything damp—moisture + cold = friction.

Pre-warm (safely): Warm the liner with body heat or a room-temp towel. Avoid hot air/heaters directly on the skin or device.

Watch for hot spots: Check skin every few hours the first day out in the cold. Look for redness that doesn’t fade in 20–30 minutes, blisters, cracks, or pale/gray areas (possible cold injury).

Manage volume changes: Cold can cause swelling or shrinkage. Adjust sock ply to maintain a snug, even fit—don’t “crank down” straps to compensate.

Night routine reset: Gently wash/dry the limb; apply moisturizer; let skin fully dry before bed. If skin is chafed, consider a barrier film (ask your clinician what’s right for you).

Device care

Keep components dry: Wipe salt, slush, and moisture off the foot shell and pylons; salt is corrosive.

Mind batteries: Lithium cells hate the cold—keep spares close to your body (inner pocket) and dry.

Home safety

Entryway defense: Non-slip mats inside/outside; towel down wet floors fast.

Lights & rails: Night lights on; use handrails and grab bars where possible.

Slow is safe: Give yourself extra time—falls happen when we rush.

If something feels off—fit, skin, or function—pause and call us. We can talk you through quick fixes or arrange follow-up when roads improve.

As slick spots appear, let’s talk about fall safety tips.

We know that slips, stumbles, and unexpected falls can happen — especially for those adjusting to a prosthesis or navigating uneven ground. The goal isn’t to eliminate every risk (life’s too unpredictable for that), but to equip you with tools that help minimize injury when a fall does happen.

Here are a few tips to keep in mind:

Tuck your chin, turn your head. This helps protect your face and head during an unexpected fall.

Try to land on your side or buttocks. Avoid using outstretched hands, which can lead to wrist or shoulder injuries.

Keep your limbs relaxed. It may feel counterintuitive, but staying loose helps your body absorb the impact more safely.

Falls can be scary, but knowing how to react can make a big difference. If you have concerns about balance or mobility, talk to us — we’re here to help you move with more confidence this season and beyond.

Faith is taking the first step even when you don’t see the whole staircase. – Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. 🕊️✨

On this day of reflection and remembrance, we’re reminded that progress often begins with a single, brave step. Whether it’s toward healing, hope, or wholeness, every step matters — even when the road ahead feels uncertain.

We see that courage every day in our patients. In every fitting, every adjustment, and every moment of determination, we witness what it means to rise — not just physically, but in spirit. Dr. King’s legacy calls us all to move forward with compassion, dignity, and purpose.

Today and always, we honor the journey toward equity, inclusion, and healing — one step at a time.

One donation can save someone’s life. 🩸❤️

January is National Blood Donor Month, a time to recognize the everyday heroes who roll up their sleeves to give hope. Many prosthetic patients know firsthand how vital blood donations are — whether during surgery, trauma recovery, or unexpected complications. These gifts are unseen but deeply felt.

If you’re able, consider making a donation this month. And if you’ve ever received one, know that you’re part of a powerful circle of giving and healing. It’s just one more way our community lifts each other up.

To find a local blood drive, visit redcrossblood.org or check with your local hospital. Your contribution could mean everything to someone starting their next chapter.

Staying warm shouldn’t mean sacrificing comfort or mobility.

Cold weather brings new challenges — especially when it comes to dressing around a prosthesis. Bulky layers, stiff fabrics, or poor fit can create discomfort, and even affect how your prosthesis functions. But, with a few thoughtful adjustments, you can stay cozy, comfortable, and confident all season long.

Winter Layering Tips:

Choose moisture-wicking base layers to keep skin dry.

Use seamless or flat-seamed fabrics to reduce skin irritation.

Avoid tight cuffs or waistbands that may interfere with sockets.

Consider thermal-lined prosthetic covers for warmth.

Wear longer socks or liners to prevent cold air from reaching your residual limb.

If wearing gloves with a prosthetic arm, opt for easy-on options with stretch or magnetic closures.

If you’re unsure what works best for your unique needs, The Celerity team is happy to help you find solutions that keep you warm and mobile this winter.

Getting back to your fitness routine after a break—due to illness, travel, surgery, or life's unpredictability—may seem overwhelming. But remember, you’re not beginning from scratch. Whether it's stretching at home, doing low-impact exercises, or building strength, the key is to remain consistent and gentle with yourself.

Healing doesn’t happen in isolation — instead, it’s powered by community.

When facing limb loss, it’s easy to feel like you’re walking a road no one else understands. But you’re not alone — and you were never meant to go it alone. There’s strength in hearing someone say, “I’ve been there too.” Whether it’s a support group, a shared story, or a simple message of encouragement, community reminds us that our experiences are valid — and that hope is real.

If you’re looking to connect, we invite you to join a local support group, follow voices that inspire you, or even reach out to someone walking a similar path. We’d suggest checking out:

INTEGRIS Health Jim Thorpe Rehabilitation: Offers a monthly Limb Loss Support Group providing a safe space for patients, families, and the community to share and learn. https://integrishealth.org/locations/rehabilitation/integris-health-jim-thorpe-rehabilitation/support-groups

You don’t have to become a ‘new you’ for the new year — you are already strong, resilient, and worthy of care.

January often brings pressure to transform overnight. But real growth doesn’t come from reinvention — it comes from small, meaningful steps rooted in self-compassion. At Celerity, we believe in progress that honors your pace, your needs, and your whole journey.

Instead of chasing drastic change, what if this year is about gentle momentum? About checking in with your body, asking what support you need, and allowing healing to unfold one steady step at a time.

We’re here to walk beside you — in every season, at every stage.

A quick note about socket options we’re excited about 🧡

Meet Shelly! She was recently fit at Celerity with a new Slingshot Bionics socket—and she’s already noticing a secure feel and all-day comfort. Every person is different, but when the fit is right, daily life often feels a little lighter and more confident.

We’ve seen encouraging results with this socket style for many patients—especially those looking to reduce pistoning, improve suspension, or ease end-of-day pressure. It won’t be the perfect match for everyone, but it’s a great option to consider.

Curious if a different socket could help you move more comfortably? We’re happy to walk through what this could look like for you—no pressure, just a conversation.

Walking again isn’t just about steps—it’s about getting your life back.

It might be standing in the kitchen again to make coffee. Or walking across the yard to hug your grandkids. Or standing taller for the first time since surgery.

Behind every prosthetic fitting is a story of resilience, discomfort, courage, and hard-won confidence. It takes time. It takes trust. And it takes support that never gives up.

We’ve shared this journey with people from all walks of life—and we’re honored to witness what it really means to walk again.
