In honor and recognition of Black History Month, here at Rolfe Funeral Home, our staff would like to pay tribute this day to Prince Greer, America’s first African American embalmer. During the Civil War era, Dr. W. P. Cornelius, an undertaker who had previously embalmed Prince Greer’s former slave master, had started to grow tired of the business and wanted to pass down the knowledge and technique of the embalming trade to Prince Greer in exchange for room and board. Greer became the first recorded embalmer of color in the United States.
The passing of a loved one is a difficult time. We are here to help you honor and celebrate their life, and to begin the healing process for your family.
