Oklahoma is experiencing a critical blood shortage. Our Blood Institute, which supplies more than 95% of the state’s blood, reports reserves are at approximately one day’s supply. This shortage threatens hospitals’ ability to meet patient needs for trauma care, surgeries, cancer treatments and childbirth emergencies.

Hospitals are encouraged to take immediate action by hosting on-site blood drives with OBI, encouraging staff participation through flexible scheduling, engaging patients and visitors, and partnering with community organizations to expand donor outreach.
