A routine screening turned into a life-saving diagnosis, and a powerful reminder of why early detection matters. đź’š

When Bridget Bredy noticed abnormal bleeding, she immediately scheduled an appointment at INTEGRIS Health Medical Group Memorial West and was subsequently scheduled for a colonoscopy. Unfortunately, the colonoscopy revealed stage 2 cancer.

Within weeks of her diagnosis, Bredy began neoadjuvant chemotherapy which she received every two weeks from June through mid-August 2024. Despite the challenges, family and close friends helped Bridget to stay strong.

“They were my rock. Having cancer forced me to allow others to help. It was a growth opportunity for me.” She adds, “I had to be there for my kids and didn’t want them to see me suffer.”

Bridget also credits the support of her care team at INTEGRIS Health. “They took as much time as I needed to make sure I understood my treatment plan and the next steps,” she says. “I felt informed, educated and supported the entire time.”

Thankfully, her tumor responded well to chemotherapy, shrinking significantly and allowing her to avoid radiation before surgery.

Bridget's experience shows how staying proactive with recommended screenings can make all the difference. When cancer is caught early, there are more options, better outcomes and more moments that matter.

Colore**al cancer is one of the most common cancers, but it’s also one of the most preventable.

Regular screening can detect issues early when treatment is most effective. In fact, most colore**al cancers begin as small growths called polyps that can be found and removed early.

Know your risk. Start screening at age 45 if you’re at average risk and talk with your doctor about what’s right for you. Learn more about risk factors, prevention, screening and early detection by clicking the link below.

Advanced stage pancreatic cancer typically has a limited life expectancy, often with survival being measured in months rather than years. William “Charley” Maynard of Oklahoma City is an exception to that rule.

Despite a grim prognosis of seven months to live, the 65-year-old chose to live fully, balancing work with chemotherapy. Charley reflects on his positive mindset and the strong bonds he formed with his medical team, whom he considers family.

Charley believes the reason he is still alive, is so that he can share his story and give hope to others facing a tough diagnosis.

“I’ve never questioned anything about pancreatic cancer and still to this day I don’t know anything about it, because I didn’t want to know. That’s negativity in my eyes and I’m looking forward. I’m not going backwards in life.”

Through his story, he embodies resilience and hope, encouraging others with his experience.
