Demetria believes that healing begins when we’re truly seen and accepted for who we are. Her sessions are a safe and affirming space for healing and growth- especially for those within the Black community who may not always feel supported in traditional mental health settings.

Demetria works with young and older adults, including those exploring identity, spirituality, and alternative lifestyles. She meets people where they are and walks alongside them as they uncover their own path forward.

Her fire doesn’t stop at her hair. Like the phoenix, she’s risen from the ashes many times and comes back fierier each time. She’s here to help her clients do the same 🔥

No cold or clinical sessions here- she creates an inclusive therapy environment that still brings humor and fun alongside the ability to talk about heavy things.

She works with tweens, teens, young adults, and caregivers with a special emphasis on clients with autism, autoimmune disorders, and those who are neurodiverse and/or LGBTQIA2S+.

When we hear the world “trauma,” we might have a more extreme definition of the word in our minds. Unfortunately, this extreme connotation of the word “trauma” can prevent us from seeking support for what we’ve experienced.

Particularly when talking about EMDR, we like to replace the word “trauma” with “disturbing experiences.” This removes some of the negative connotation and includes those who are struggling with what they’ve been through but don’t feel like they can label it as trauma.

Where does people pleasing actually come from, and why is it so prevalent with neurodivergent individuals?

When we receive an ADHD or Autism diagnosis later in life, we’ve probably become highly skilled at masking and have developed skills for navigating a neurotypical world. People-pleasing is one of these survival strategies.

Somewhere along the way, we learned that we were “too much” for the world around us so we learned to prioritize the comfort of other people over our own need for safety.

It takes time to undo a lifetime of people-pleasing programming and putting others’ needs before our own, but it is possible 🩵

October is ADHD Awareness Month, serving as the perfect reminder that ADHD wears many faces!

The difference in symptoms between men and women starts early, as children display varying symptoms that are further separated by gender and cultural lenses. Overlooking girls’ symptoms in school like daydreaming, low self-esteem, sensitivity, and more can lead to women going undiagnosed and self-managing their symptoms into adulthood.

ADHD Awareness Month is a reminder that our mental health journeys are winding, impacted by our gender and the culture we’re raised in, and a lifelong process of advocating for ourselves.

ADHD impacts people in so many different ways, and we want you to know that we see you (and we have our own stories with it, too) 💖
