El agotamiento emocional en cuidadores es real, especialmente en padres y madres de niños con necesidades especiales.

La carga emocional, las citas médicas, la defensa constante… todo puede causar estrés crónico, ansiedad y una profunda sensación de soledad. Estudios muestran que hasta el 50% de padres de niños con discapacidades presentan síntomas de depresión clínica.

Buscar apoyo terapéutico puede ser un acto de amor propio. Es un espacio para desahogarse, sanar y recargar energías.

Este viernes, estaré como ponente invitada en Raíces de Amor: Sibshops, un espacio diseñado también para acompañar a los hermanos y hermanas de niños con necesidades especiales.

On April 29th, I had the honor of attending the 2025 Oklahoma City Police Department’s Chief’s Prayer Breakfast. A powerful event bringing together faith leaders, community partners, and first responders united in service and hope.

As a mental health professional, I’m especially grateful for the opportunity to support those who protect us daily. Our first responders are heroes, and they carry the weight of unimaginable stress and trauma.

Nearly 1 in 3 first responders develop behavioral health conditions, including PTSD and depression, a powerful reminder that they, too, deserve compassionate care and mental health support.

I’m proud to stand alongside those working to ensure the wellbeing of the brave individuals who keep our communities safe.

Soak Up the Sun for Better Health!☀️

The days are getting longer, the flowers are blooming, and spring is finally here! With the sun shining brighter, it’s the perfect time to step outside and enjoy nature.

Did you know that spending time in the sun can boost your mood and improve your health? Sunlight helps your body produce vitamin D, which supports your immune system, strengthens bones, and can even reduce symptoms of depression. According to Harvard Medical School, low levels of vitamin D have been linked to an increased risk of depression and other mental health concerns (Harvard Health Publishing).

So, whether it’s a walk in the park, gardening, or just sitting on your porch, take some time to enjoy the fresh air and sunshine. Your mind and body will thank you!

Last month I attended the Bridges to Access conference on healthcare and immigration at the University of Oklahoma. I participated in a panel alongside fellow advocates discussing immigration and mental health in marginalized communities.

This conference was a great opportunity to discuss the challenges immigrants face in accessing healthcare, how legislation impacts healthcare and immigration, and overall immigrant mental health.

I always love meeting with other advocates who are working to address these important issues in our communities. Thank you for having me! 💜

El mes pasado asistí a la conferencia Bridges to Access sobre atención médica e inmigración en la Universidad de Oklahoma. Participé en un panel junto con otros defensores que discutían sobre inmigración y salud mental en comunidades marginadas.
