Today, we celebrate the physicians who make healing possible.

At the Oklahoma Proton Center, our doctors do more than deliver advanced care. They listen, guide, and stand alongside every patient and family through each step of the journey. Their expertise in proton therapy is matched by their compassion, patience, and commitment to treating the whole person, not just the diagnosis.

We are grateful for the dedication, innovation, and heart our physicians bring every day. Thank you for the lives you impact and the hope you inspire.

Happy Doctors Day đź’›

Tammy Onafowokan is a Nurse Practitioner at the Oklahoma Proton Center who brings a deep background in oncology and a calm, steady presence to every patient.

Tammy started their career in 2018 as an RN in medical oncology, supporting patients through chemotherapy and immunotherapy at a small clinic in Florida. After several years on the medical oncology side, Tammy became a Nurse Practitioner and transitioned into radiation oncology. Tammy has now been part of the Oklahoma Proton Center team for about three years.

On a typical day, Tammy meets with patients, who are in treatment, to check in on how they are feeling, help with medications and symptom support, and make sure each person can stay on track with care. Tammy also supports new consults and follow-up visits for patients who have completed treatment. Tammy especially values patient education and the time our team can spend helping people move from anxiety to confidence.

Tammy describes the clinic as a true family and loves the kindness of the Oklahoma community. Outside of work, Tammy loves baking cakes, playing a Wallyball, a fast-paced version of volleyball, and spending time with family, including a little one who is almost two.

We are grateful to have Tammy on our team. Thank you for the care, compassion, and expertise you bring to every patient.

Today we’re honoring Laura, who recently completed treatment and rang the bell at Oklahoma Proton Center. Her strength, grace, and sweet disposition brightened our days, and the love and care of her amazing family support group was evident each day she came for treatment.

Laura, congratulations on this milestone. We’re cheering you on in the next chapter. 💙

From patient to first pitch. đź’›

Lauren, a former Oklahoma patient and breast cancer survivor, stepped onto the mound at the OU vs Auburn softball game- not just to throw a pitch, but to celebrate everything she’s overcome.

This moment goes beyond the game—it represents resilience, renewal, and the life that continues long after a cancer diagnosis.

We’re so proud of you, Lauren. 👏

Meet Caty Dean, one of the dedicated radiation therapists at the Oklahoma Proton Center and a true front-line hero for our patients.

Caty plays a hands-on role in patient care, delivering treatments and walking alongside patients every step of their journey. From celebrating patient graduations to being a steady presence on hard days, she finds the most reward in the relationships she builds with patients who trust her daily during their treatment.

Since joining the Oklahoma Proton Center in October 2021, Caty says she has loved being part of a team that truly works together and supports one another every day. What she appreciates most about OPC is how patient‑focused it is, from celebrating milestones to going above and beyond for each patient.

When she’s not at work, Caty enjoys spending time with her toddler, making Target runs, visiting her mom, or tapping into her creative side by painting custom party banners for friends, family, and coworkers.

Thank you, Caty, for your compassion, teamwork, and heart for our patients. We’re so glad you’re part of the OPC family! 💙

This month, Oklahoma Proton Center is helping raise awareness about colorectal cancer, one of the third most common cancers in men and women and the second leading cause of cancer‑related deaths in the U.S.

Rates are rising among younger adults, making colorectal cancer the leading cause of cancer death in Americans under 50, a shift experts did not expect to see until 2030. Early detection is critical, with over 90% five‑year survival when caught early.

What You Can Do:
✔️ Get screened starting at age 45, or earlier if you’re at higher risk.
✔️ Know the symptoms and talk to your doctor about any concerns.
✔️ Wear blue this month to help spark life‑saving conversations.

Oklahoma Proton Center is committed to providing advanced treatment options and supporting patients through every step of their care.
