Did you see our post about Sooner Stand Down 2025? Hear from ODF Executive John Wilguess share more about the experience!
Last week I had the honor of seeing our MobileSmiles team at the OKC Veteran’s Stand Down - an event built around one purpose: taking care of veterans who are homeless or facing overwhelming need. Connie Abundis, Jesenia Hernandez and Patrick Brown were there very early and cared for everyone who came aboard.
Walking into that space, your heart just cracks open. So many men and women who wore the uniform, who carried burdens most of us will never know, now struggling just to survive. They sacrificed for us, for our country - and yet too many are left behind when it comes to basic human needs.
What struck me most was the unity and gratitude. Dozens of groups showed up - each bringing what they could, each doing their part. MobileSmiles was just one piece of that puzzle, but we were able to provide something that’s often one of the hardest health services for the homeless to access: dental care. When you can relieve someone’s pain, restore a smile, or simply treat them with dignity—it matters. And the veteran's said "thank you" in so many kind and appreciative ways.
I’m so grateful for our close partnership with D-DENT, (Dentists for the Disabled & Elderly in Need of Treatment). Together, we are able to step into places like this and meet people where they are, with compassion and care.
These moments remind me why MobileSmiles exists. It’s not just about teeth - it’s about humanity.
If this moves you the way it moved me, please consider giving. Even a small gift can take someone out of pain and give them back their smile - and as always, no patient is ever charged for their treatment:
