Advance voting is now open for the elections being held on November 4th, and it's VERY important that you take the time to research your candidates and get out to vote.
Most of these off-year elections are won or lost by a handful of votes as many people don't take the time to go vote. But these are important positions up for consideration and your vote absolutely matters.
City council races are critical as they determine whether you get a council that will be good stewards of your tax dollar by focusing only on core government functions, and not spend frivolously.
The following excellent candidates are ones I know personally who fully understand economics, and the importance of lowering the cost of government so you can afford to pay your bills, mortgage, and taxes and still have something left....for heaven's sake!
Please support these great candidates with your vote. You will not regret it!
Shawnee Ward 1: Tony Gillette
Shawnee Ward 2: Dr. Mike Kemmling
Shawnee Ward 3: Dave Myres
Shawnee Ward 4: Laurel Stiffler
Shawnee Ray follows Shawnee politics very closely and does a great job comparing candidates. Check out his informative and, often quite entertaining, posts on these four races here:

If we ever want to have a prayer of getting property taxes under control, these local races are crucial.
At the state level we have very little power to stop the out of control local taxing authorities that are responsible for raising your taxes indiscriminately. The people we elect for these positions make those decisions.
School boards are perhaps the biggest offenders in the property tax increases so make sure to look closely at what those candidates stand for before you vote for them. If you have no choice but the candidate on the ballot...with whom you disagree...write in someone else who you know and trust!
All politics are local...these races should be as important to you as the big statewide races. In some ways they affect you even more.
I'll be voting on election day! I hope to see you out there!
