🎉🎢 Welcome Back, Kim! 🎢🎉

After a well-deserved 30-day sabbatical, we are excited to welcome back our amazing Verifications Coordinator, Kim Delana!

Kim spent her time making special memories with family — especially soaking up sweet moments with her 10-week-old grandson, Luka 💙 — and enjoying a magical trip to Disneyland. (If there’s an amusement park involved, you can count them in!)

To make her return a little extra fun, the DWC team surprised Kim by transforming her office into her very own amusement park 🎡🎠 — shout out to Monette Rost and Oi Bouttaphanh for the creative and festive décor! What a way to make coming back after a month away feel extra special.

At Docs Who Care, we care about the well-being of our staff. Offering a month-long sabbatical every five years of employment reflects our commitment to our culture -- the importance of work/life balance and taking time to recharge.

Last week, DWC's Graham Morsch, Karen Garrett, and Flora Kayakone attended the National NALTO Conference in Fabulous Las Vegas!

Graham had the privilege of meeting Dr. Therus Kolff, who is credited as a founder of the entire Locum Tenens Industry. He was inducted into the NALTO Hall of Fame at the conference.

The modern medical locum tenens industry was established in 1979 by Dr. Therus Kolff and Dr. Alan Kronhaus. Working through the Health Systems Research Institute (HSRI) at the University of Utah, they developed the concept to fill temporary physician staffing gaps in rural, underserved communities.

Key details regarding the origin of locum tenens:

• The Concept: The term means "to hold the place of" in Latin. While doctors have filled in for each other historically, Kolff and Kronhaus created the formal industry and business model for temporary physician staffing.

• The Founders: Dr. Therus Kolff, who served as Director of HSRI, recognized the need for short-term staffing to combat rural shortages. His colleague, Dr. Alan Kronhaus, helped pioneer the concept while looking for a way to balance work with personal time.

• Initial Goal: The initiative was designed to help rural communities find doctors, as it was easier to recruit for short-term stints than permanent roles.

• Evolution: Following the success of the HSRI project, other companies formed, including those associated with early pioneers like Dr. Ken Teufel of Interim Physicians.
