Today, the Principal of Hazlet Middle School shared that my presentation offered a deeply personal, powerful, and courageous story about my painful journey of exclusion due to my autism. He expressed that my message gave the students hope and encouraged them to believe in their ability to create positive change in their own lives.

I also had the opportunity to learn about their “Unified Partners” program, which provides mentors for every student with a disability to ensure full inclusion in all classrooms. The program has had a remarkable impact, motivating students to demonstrate positive behavior so they can participate in this supportive and inclusive community.

It was such a great day — one that reminded me how far I’ve come, and how sharing our stories can create real change.

This week’s Autism Acceptance Month visits were truly meaningful. I started at the Midland School in Paramus, where I had the honor of signing the Authors’ Chair.

At Kittatinny High School, I spoke with parents and administrators who were eager to learn and grow, and at Bragg Elementary in Chester, a student bravely shared that he feels the same way I did growing up — not always understood or accepted by his peers. Moments like that remind me why this work matters.

I wrapped up the week in Shrewsbury Borough with the youngest group of all, grades K–4. They listened with such focus and shared what they learned during the Q&A, proving that acceptance can start early when we give kids the chance to understand.

Monday, I head to Hazlet Middle School. If you are interested in having me you at your school, organization or conference Email me at Tips4Inclusion2018@gmail.com

During today's assembly at Bragg Elementary School, a student bravely said " I have autism, adhd and a tic disorder just like you. I have no friends, my best friend moved away, others don't understand me, and they find my tics annoying " He asked me to remind everyone how they can include him. His twin brother later asked how he could help support his brother.

My response was " If you see someone different from you, smile, say hello, get to know them, invite them to play with you and most of all be patient".

That moment made such a real impact, and everyone listened. When a child feels understood and safe enough to express how he feels in front of his peers, you know you are making a difference. It was one of the most defining moments in my career today and makes it all worthwhile.

Today I had the opportunity to visit Midland school for an author's visit, thanks to a connection I made at the NJEA teachers convention. I hosted assemblies, signed numerous copies of my books, signed their author’s chair and every student and staff member received a copy of my pamphlet “ How to be a good influence to people with disabilities”, that started my career. I am delighted that students will be able to share my 10 tips on how to be a better friend to peers with disabilities with their families and discuss it at home. Now, I am heading to Kittatiny High School for a parent presentation tonight.

Here's one of the many heartfelt cards and letters from Mendham Borough Schools. I was truly inspired by the students' thoughtful words and love reading through them.

Yesterday I had the opportunity to attend an open house for an incredible program called Build and Brew. It’s a welcoming space where people with and without disabilities can learn, create, and connect through classes, activities, and community events. They offer an impressive range of programs—maker space, AI, art, music, cooking, drama, graphic design, and even video game development—all supported by a caring and dedicated staff. I highly recommend visiting their Red Bank facility to see the impact they’re making.

Kindness is something we teach.
Inclusion is something we model.

The way our children treat others… starts with us.

Teach them to be kind.
Teach them to include.
Teach them that differences are not something to avoid —
but something to understand.

Because every child deserves to feel accepted, valued,
and never left out. 💙

How to be a good Influence to people with disabilities

I am a young adult with autism who struggled to fit in with my peers during high school. After I graduated, I decided to write a guide to teach kids how to act socially with those who have disabilities. My guide was published by the NJ Coalition of Inclusive Education and became widely circulated on social media by organizations such as Autism Speaks and Autism NJ. It became viral when the Asbury Park Press released an article that includes a video about me.
