What Contacting 988 Does:
🔹 Connects callers directly with trained crisis counselors
🔹 Provides immediate support for suicidal thoughts, emotional distress, anxiety, depression, or substance-related crises
🔹 Offers guidance for family or friends concerned about a loved one
🔹 Operates 24/7, 365 days a year
🔹 Free and confidential
Call/Text 988 if you or someone else is:
🔹 Feeling overwhelmed and unable to cope
🔹 Having thoughts of self-harm or su***de
🔹 Experiencing intense anxiety, panic, depression, or emotional distress
🔹 Worried about a friend or family member’s mental state
🔹 Struggling with substance use and need immediate support
When you call, you will reach a trained counselor who will listen, offer support, help you de-escalate the crisis, and connect you with local resources when appropriate. Most crises can be resolved over the phone — without needing police, EMS, or a trip to the hospital unless absolutely necessary.
For Emergencies Involving Immediate Danger:
If someone has already harmed themselves, is actively attempting to, or poses a clear and imminent threat to others, call 911 immediately.
