With heavy hearts, we share the passing of Jonathan Janes on March 9, 2026, at the age of 54.

Jonathan’s life was a powerful story of redemption, resilience, and second chances. After spending 32 years behind bars, he stepped back into the world determined to truly live. In just a few short years, he experienced so many of life’s moments that many take for granted. He saw the ocean for the first time, regained his independence, got his driver’s license back, and embraced the freedom to build a new life.

He loved deeply, especially his family. Jonathan had a special place in his heart for babies and children, always taking time to sit, play, and share laughter. He found peace in fishing and hunting, joy in traveling, and purpose in his faith. After finding Jesus, he dedicated himself to helping others, especially those struggling with addiction, offering hope through his own story.

Though his time with us after his release was far too short, he filled it with meaning, growth, and love. He showed that no matter how much time has passed, it is never too late to change and to live fully.

He is survived by his brothers, Sammy Janes (Kelly), Carl Smith (Stella), and Walter Janes; and his sister, Denise Oprzedek (Bryan). He was a cherished uncle and loved by many.

Jonathan was preceded in death by his father, David Janes; his mother, Rosie Crawhorn Kennedy; his stepmother, Catherine Janes; and his brothers, Randy Janes and David Janes.

A celebration of life will be held on March 22 at 4:00 PM at New Beginnings, 194 Promiseland Drive, Grayson, Kentucky.

His story will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. 🤍

If you know, then you know this trick for keeping them lines straight for client boards..

Aftercare is grown so much - we now need 2 boards. That’s a blessing here at Journey to Healing.

Every name on this board will stand for something.

✨ Strength in the face of struggle
✨ Courage to choose recovery
✨ Growth through pain
✨ Second chances
✨ Healing in progress
✨ Breaking generational cycles
✨ Showing up—even on the hard days

Each name represents a story that didn’t end in addiction… but continued in recovery 🙌

This board only a reminder that behind every name is a person choosing to fight, to grow, and to become something greater 🌱

💭 You are not just a name—you are a testimony here at Journey to Healing, and we are honored to witness every step of the journey. 💜

You don’t have to fix everything overnight.

Healing doesn’t happen all at once. The damage didn’t happen overnight, and recovery doesn’t either. Real change takes time, patience, and grace with yourself.

Some days the victory is big.
Some days the victory is simply showing up and trying again.

Both matter.

At Journey to Healing, we believe recovery is built one step, one decision, and one day at a time. You don’t have to do it perfectly — you just have to keep going.

✨ Progress over perfection.
✨ Healing over hiding.
✨ One day at a time.

If you or someone you love is struggling with substance use, help is here.

Rebuilding your life requires courage. Sometimes it means walking straight through fear, uncertainty, and the unknown. But every step forward is a step closer to healing, freedom, and the life you deserve. 💪✨

At Journey to Healing, we believe fear doesn’t get the final say—recovery does. ❤️‍🩹

March is Social Work Month, a time to honor the heart behind the helping profession.

At Journey to Healing, we see firsthand the impact social workers and behavioral health professionals make every day. They hold space for pain, celebrate progress, advocate for dignity, and remind people that healing is possible—even in the darkest moments.

Recovery is not just about sobriety.
It is about hope, connection, and rebuilding lives—and social workers help make that possible.

To all the social workers and helpers walking beside individuals in recovery: we see you, we appreciate you, and we thank you.

Recovery communities remind us that healing doesn’t happen alone 💜🤝

We are overwhelmed in the very best way by the out pouring of love and support our community has shown after the recent fire that affected residents in our outpatient substance use transitional living program.

Because of all of your kindness the calls, messages, donations, prayers, clothing, offers of housing, and pure kindness our residents are safe, supported, and reminded that they are not alone. What could have been a moment of total loss became a powerful reminder of what community truly means.

Recovery doesn’t happen in isolation, and this moment proved that beyond a doubt. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for standing with us, lifting our residents up, and showing up when it mattered most. We are deeply grateful and endlessly humbled. 💙

Special thanks to the generosity of our community partners: Journey 2 Heal, Recovery Rowan County, RC Overdose Awareness Group, Healing Appalachia- Jackie Willis and Robbie Wells, Hope in the Hills, Pathways, and for the swift action of the Morehead Fire Department & our very Brad Childers for ensuring all clients were safely evacuated and secured.
