Though Voodoo has often been portrayed as "dark magic" or "Devil worship," the Devil doesn't appear in most versions of Voodoo. In reality, Voodoo emphasizes a strong connection to the spiritual world, and many spirits are seen as similar to saints. Furthermore, many Voodoo practitioners follow a mix of Christian beliefs and traditional African religions, such as the belief in one supreme creator and the importance of spirit worship. Rituals include prayer, songs, dances, gestures, and sometimes animal sacrifice, and most of these practices are aimed at summoning certain spirits for help and guidance, restoring the balance in relationships between humans and spirits, or repairing bonds between people.
