Self-Reflection as an Act of Self-Respect
Taking time to check in with yourself and understand your true feelings is a profound expression of self-respect. It’s important to pause and genuinely ask yourself: How are you really feeling today? Are you feeling joyful, anxious, overwhelmed, or perhaps a mix of emotions? Recognizing and acknowledging your emotions can lead to a deeper understanding of your needs and desires, fostering a more harmonious relationship with yourself.

Authentic Heart is dedicated to nurturing emotional wellness by encouraging individuals to establish healthy boundaries and adopt sustainable self-care practices. By promoting self-awareness and mindfulness, Authentic Heart helps individuals cultivate a balanced and fulfilling life. Through resources and support, it empowers you to honor your feelings, respect your personal limits, and prioritize your well-being.

About a year ago, I became a contributing author in "Compassion in Color: Frameworks for Workplace Wellness".

My chapter, “Purple Reign", was written from a place of deep reflection on what it means to lead with compassion while protecting your own well-being.

As a organizational psychologist, trauma professional, and mental health consultant, I’ve worked with educators, clinicians, and leaders for over two decades. One pattern shows up repeatedly: the people who care the most are often the ones who overextend the most.

They answer the extra email.
They take on the additional client.
They show up for everyone else while quietly running on empty.

When I wrote my chapter, I wanted to challenge a harmful belief that many helping professionals carry:

That compassion means unlimited access.

It doesn’t.

Compassion requires boundaries.
Without them, empathy becomes exhaustion.

A year later, that message feels even more relevant.

As we continue conversations about workplace wellness, leadership, and mental health, I’m curious:
