If your child develops flu symptoms such as fever, cough, body aches, fatigue, or vomiting, keep them home from school and ensure they stay hydrated and get plenty of rest!

Watch for warning signs such as difficulty breathing, persistent high fever, or dehydration, which require prompt medical attention.

Children can return to school when they have been fever-free for at least 24 hours without medication and symptoms are improving. If needed, you can request a school excuse note, which can be sent directly to the school or uploaded to the patient portal for convenience.

Call our office for guidance on caring for your child, managing symptoms, or obtaining a school excuse!

Living in close contact with other students on campus can increase your risk of catching colds and the flu!

Protect yourself by washing your hands regularly, getting enough sleep, staying hydrated, eating balanced meals, and avoiding sharing drinks or utensils. Flu vaccines are also recommended each year. Staying proactive helps you stay healthy and focused on your studies!

We recommend college students get familiar with the student health center for acute illnesses. Please feel free to call our office if you have questions about vaccines, prevention strategies, or managing symptoms while at college.

The holidays are a time for family and fun…but also for germs!

Encourage handwashing, covering coughs and sneezes, and staying home if anyone is sick to help prevent spreading illness. If someone can’t attend the holidays in person, consider celebrating together virtually via video calls so everyone can join safely.

Caring for a sick child can add complications to an already busy time of year... but we're here for you this holiday season! ❄

Cold weather often means dry, itchy skin for kids.

Winter skincare starts with simple steps like daily moisturizing, gentle unscented soaps, and keeping baths short and warm instead of hot. Don’t forget lip balm and sunscreen - even in winter, the sun can be harsh! Keeping a humidifier in your child’s bedroom can also help keep their skin hydrated!

If your child struggles with eczema or severe dry skin in the winter, call our office so we can help you find the right treatment and comfort plan.

Toddlers develop speech at different rates, but some signs may indicate the need for evaluation.

By around 2 years old, children should be combining words into simple 2-word sentences, and by 3 years old, about 90% of what they say should be understandable to a stranger! Watch for limited vocabulary, not using gestures or sounds to communicate, or losing previously acquired words. Early identification and intervention can make a big difference in language development!

Your child's primary care provider can evaluate their speech and provide an appropriate referral to a speech therapist or early intervention if needed!

Teaching problem-solving and stress management skills at this stage helps children build resilience and confidence! Encourage your child to manage stress by taking deep breaths, talking about their feelings, or using drawing or journaling to express emotions.

If your child struggles with emotional regulation or frequent mood changes, call our office at (360) 456-1600. We can offer strategies, resources, and referrals if needed.
