Something I've been reflecting on today as a Mom of two littles...💬
Ordinary every day life is really quite redundant and boring.
Laundry, dishes, taking out the trash, grocery shopping, running errands, cleaning up messes. 🧹🧼
It really isn't exciting at all. And when you become a Mom, the ordinary daily chores really can sit heavy on the mind.
Another load of laundry, another pile of dishes in the sink to clean up, but wait—the dishwasher needs to be unloaded first...and there's another mess that needs tending to!
It. Is. So. Dang. Repetitive. And. Doesn't. Stop. 🏃♀️
This week I picked up a new Waldorf book about the early childhood years from birth to age 7. In Waldorf/Steiner education, they talk a lot about "purposeful work".
👉✨️ In Waldorf Education, purposeful work means engaging in meaningful, real tasks that serve life rather than performative or rushed productivity. Children and adults are invited to work with their hands, minds, and hearts together. Activities like cooking, handwork, gardening, woodworking, and caring for the environment are not extras. They are central to learning and human development.
So today I am carrying this wisdom and mindset with me on a very ordinary day of Motherhood...
..while I sit here peeling garlic for freezer prep (with my children participating and finding it deeply calming and mentally stimulating) with a collagen face mask on to nourish my aging, tired skin, and listening to a Tonie on my children's Tonie Box on this quite simple and ordinary Saturday.
