When it comes to protecting young people, we think about seat belts, sunscreen, and looking both ways before crossing the street. But youth exposure to gambling often flies under the radar. The Too Young to Bet campaign is a friendly but firm reminder that gambling is not for kids, and research shows that early exposure increases the risk of gambling-related harm later in life.

Too Young to Bet focuses on simple, positive actions. Setting clear boundaries. Keeping gambling where it belongs. Helping families make informed choices for the children in their lives. Here is a safe bet to end the year on: when young people wait until adulthood to gamble, they are far less likely to experience harm. The youth have a bright future ahead. Why risk it? Gambling isn’t for kids.

ECPG continues to grow in strength and support across Washington.

As we reflect on 2025, we are grateful for the many ways people across Washington worked together to support individuals and families affected by problem gambling. This year, ECPG expanded its reach, strengthened partnerships, and delivered programs that connected thousands of people to support, education, and resources.

Kids pick up more from sports than we realize. Teamwork, confidence, excitement... and sometimes the messages around gambling that come with today’s sports environment.

The Washington Healthy Youth Survey showed an increase in gambling among all age groups from 2021 to 2023, and experts expect that trend to continue as sports betting advertising grows. That is why raising awareness matters.

The Too Young to Bet campaign helps families protect kids from early exposure to gambling and reminds us of one simple truth: when young people wait until adulthood to engage in gambling, they are far less likely to experience harm. That is a win we can all root for.

When it comes to protecting young people, we can all agree on the big things: seatbelts, sunscreen, and looking both ways before crossing the street. But youth exposure to gambling often slips under the radar.

Too Young to Bet is a clear reminder that gambling is not for kids. Research shows that early exposure increases the risk of developing gambling problems later in life. From slipping a Scratch Ticket into a holiday stocking to the microtransactions and gambling-like features in many online games, young people are being introduced to gambling behavior earlier than ever.

This Too Young to Bet campaign is supported by the Evergreen Council on Problem Gambling and the Washington State Health Care Authority and is part of the national Gift Responsibly campaign from the National Council on Problem Gambling.

Giving Tuesday: Reflections on a Year of Connection and Change

As 2025 ends, we are taking a moment to reflect on a year marked by connection, growth, and meaningful change. For nearly 35 years, our work at the Evergreen Council on Problem Gambling has relied on donors, partners, and community supporters who believe in the power of awareness, prevention, and healing.

This year we expanded public awareness through statewide media, reached hundreds of people through trainings and conferences, strengthened Responsible Gaming efforts, developed new prevention campaigns for youth, and built collaborations that respond to the rapidly changing gambling and gaming landscape.

Your support keeps this mission alive. This Giving Tuesday, we invite you to read our full message and join us in sustaining this work for the year ahead.

Honoring Native American Heritage Day

November is Native American Heritage Month and November 28 is Native American Heritage Day. It is a time to celebrate the rich and diverse cultures, traditions, and histories of the First Peoples of this land, and to reflect on how we can give back by honoring their wisdom, leadership, and enduring role as stewards of the land and community.

At the Evergreen Council on Problem Gambling (ECPG), we approach this month and this day with gratitude, humility, and a spirit of ongoing learning. We understand we need to do more than just recognize, and we strive to continue to learn and honor; to respect the contributions and leadership of Native Nations and Indigenous Communities. We do this by listening deeply, showing respect through our actions, and strengthening relationships that help sustain communities and the land itself.
