Here we go... Let's folks, to protect our elderly and chronically ill as there is no cure, no vaccine, and these methods are our only way to slow the COVID19 pandemic. Our healthcare system can only handle so much severe illness, and people will die if we run out of resources.
1. Typical symptoms include fever, cough and shortness of breath
2. If you or a family member feel sick with fever, cough, or difficulty breathing, and have been in close contact with a person known to have COVID19, or have recently traveled from an area with ongoing spread of COVID19, please CALL your clinic/doctor for further advice. It's important for you to call before you seek care if symptoms are not severe. You can get advice to direct you to the most appropriate care.
3. Again, consider canceling that trip, event, party, gathering to limit the spread of COVID19.
Ways to prevent illness (from the CDC)
1. Clean your hands often - wash your hands often with soap and water for AT LEAST 20 seconds, esp after you have been in a public place, or after blowing your nose, coughing or sneezing. SIng happy birthday twice when washing your hands.
2. If soap and water and not readily available, use a hand sanitizer that contains at least 60% alcohol. Cover all surfaces of your hands and rub them together until they feel dry.
3. Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands.
4. Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
5. Practice "Social Distancing" - The CDC defines social distancing as "remaining out of congregate settings, avoiding mass gatherings and maintaining distance (approximately 6 feet) from others when possible."
6. STAY HOME IF YOU ARE SICK
7. Cover coughs and sneezes.
8. Wear a facemask if you are sick. IF you are NOT sick, you do not need to wear a facemask unless you are caring for someone who is sick. Facemasks are in short supply and are needed for caregivers and health professionals.
CLEAN AND DISINFECT frequently touched surfaces daily. This includes tables, doorknobs, lightswitches, countertops, handles, desks, phones, keyboards, toilets, faucets and sinks. If surfaces are dirty, clean them. Use detergent or soap and water prior to disinfection.
Options include
- dilute household bleach - 5 tbsp (1/3 cup) per gallon of water or 4 tsp bleach per quart of water.
- Alcohol solutions - ensure solution has at least 70% alcohol
- Other common EPA resgistered household disinfectants.
