They are starting this page with the hopes to create play date opportunities with kiddos, help improve social opportunities and encourage friendships within our ABA community at Hand in Hand and locally. Do you know what neurodiversity affirming therapy looks like?
• It is child-led. We follow the child's interests and let them take the lead in our sessions.
• All play is okay! We honor all kinds of play. We do not try and change a child's play to fit neurotypical norms.
• All communication is valid. We can still model [and teach] other modes while honoring the child's chosen method of communicating.
• We focus on connection over compliance. Trust and safety are foundational to language development for all children.
• Incorporate the child's special interests. We make sessions meaningful to the child by honoring and incorporating their interests.
• Strengths-based. We highlight the child's strengths rather than focusing on their difficulties and challenges.
