Hilltop Eastern Medicine in Olympia

Hilltop Eastern Medicine in Olympia We empower individuals and change lives through a truly integrative, holistic, and authentic healthcare experience. Offering integrative acupuncture.

The Hilltop Eastern Medicine Associates are absolutely unique in their approach to healthcare. They not only practice the ancient, natural, holistic, and powerful science of Eastern medicine but are also extensively trained to utilize Western diagnostic methods and to understand pharmacology and Western perspectives on disease. Eastern Medicine is radically different from Western medicine and other natural healing modalities in a variety of ways. First, it is holistic – we examine all of a person with relation to themselves and their complete story. Second, it is natural, utilizing both the body's deep ability to heal itself – when given the right tools and framework – as well as whole herbs (not chemically processed, extracted, nor manufactured). Third, it is based upon, at its core, a fundamentally different way of seeing the body, symptoms, health, and disease. Eastern medicine treatment modalities include:
Acupuncture
Herbal medicine formulations
Medical qi gong

We also believe that accessibility to healthcare is a basic human right. So, all of our services are subject to insurance coverage (where applicable) and reduced rates.

HOW ARE YOU DOING?

I just wanted to take a moment and check in with you to see how you are doing, especially in light of everything that is going on. As you may know, I am currently finishing up a long-planned spring break this past week. And, as it stands right now, I will be returning to work March 24th with precautions in place.

CURRENT PRECAUTIONS I AM TAKING

As we navigate COVID-19 together, I wanted to let you know how I am implementing the CDC's recommendations to provide an office environment where you will be safe:

- Sterilizing with special virucidal, medical-grade wipes before every client (as opposed to twice a day)
- Providing an additional waiting area in the foyer, which allows for six feet of social distancing at all times
- Minimizing surfaces patients need to touch (ie, leaving waiting room doors open) as well as providing tissues as an added layer of precaution in touching sterilized surfaces (ie, treatment room door when you leave)
- Eliminating closer contact with patients (ie, hand-shaking, less than six-feet proximity during intake, etc.)
- Wearing an antiviral mask and sterile gloves during the acupuncture procedure, when we must be within six feet of each other
- Screening myself every hour for the mild, pre-contagion symptoms used in hospitals to determine who needs to be tested

ADDITIONAL CHANGES IN LIGHT OF COVID-19

Currently, the demand for Chinese herbal medicine, both nationally and around the globe, is quite high. Part of the reason for this is China has developed an herbal formula, which treats COVID-19 quite successfully. Another reason for this is misallocation due to individual behavior.

Therefore, two temporary changes are to be expected going forward regarding our herbal prescriptions:

- Processing times for refills will be delayed 3-6 days from our current protocol; it is advised to place your order TWO THURSDAYS before your desired pick-up time AND BEFORE NOON
- Starting April 1, 2020, prices will increase. Hopefully this is temporary, but our current $30 rate will have to increase to $35 to cover this cost. Thank you for your understanding.

WE'RE ALL IN THIS TOGETHER!

I want you to know that I am here as a resource for you. What we are all going through is unprecedented. If you have questions about the science and medicine of what is happening, I am here for you. If you need access to resources to help with possible impacts from state mandates, I am here for you. If you need to know that how you may be feeling is normal -- it absolutely is -- and I am here for you.

Please let me know how I can be of service.

All my best! (And, wash your hands.

In many ancient cultures, traditional Eastern medicine being included, we think of the winter as a time for going inward and for renewal. Often, we experience symptoms when we do not live in line with what nature is telling us.

Art: Jessica Boehman

The winter solstice time is no longer celebrated as it once was, with the understanding that this is a period of descent and rest, of going within our homes, within ourselves and taking in all that we have been through, all that has passed in this full year which is coming to a close... like nature and the animal kingdom around us, this time of hibernation is so necessary for our tired limbs, our burdened minds.

Our modern culture teaches avoidance at a max at this time; alcohol, lights, shopping, overworking, over spending, comfort food and consumerism.
..and yet the natural tug to go inwards as nearly all creatures are doing is strong and the weather so bitter that people are left feeling that winter is hard, because for those of us without burning fires and big festive families, it can be lonely and isolating. Whereas in actual fact winter is kind, she points us in her quiet soft way towards our inner self, towards this annual time of peace and reflection, embracing the darkness and forgiving, accepting and loving embracing goodbye the past year.

"Winter takes away the distractions, the buzz, and presents us with the perfect time to rest and withdraw into a womb like love, bringing fire & light to our hearth".
. and then, just around the corner the new year will begin again, and like a seed planted deep in the earth, we will all rise with renewed energy once again to dance in the sunlight

Life is a gift ❤ a Happy winter to you all...

Post-partum depression is very common. If you need support, please know we consult for free. We're here for you. ❤

Women of color are less likely to get treatment for postpartum depression because they fear they'll be judged too quickly or harshly by child welfare services. Research shows those fears may be justified.
