14 NOV 2025 - Sorry for this delayed update, but there has been a lot going on with Ray the last two weeks. We are actually still at Weill Cornell Hospital in New York City.

Ray has seen numerous specialists the last two weeks. There has been some good news with regards to his future medical care, but unfortunately, there is more bad news than good news.

Some of the medical procedures suggested would be drastic irreversible surgeries on his lower extremities. Basically all the options offered are very intense surgeries that may not reverse the damage that has already occurred to his lower extremities.

Obviously, it was not the news that we wanted to hear, but there are other options that we are pursuing before a final decision is made on some very intense surgeries.

After numerous medical consultations with Ray he is still very optimistic about his future. He never ever complains about his condition and he is a man I aspire to be….

What is most heartbreaking is that all of Rays issues were caused by a paramedic that didn’t know what he was doing and basically killed Ray causing his current medical status. I pray that Ray’s court decision is overturned so he can get the support he needs for his future medical needs.

Please continue to keep Ray in your thoughts and prayers.

Will continue to update….

7 NOV 2025 - It has been an extremely busy week for Ray. We have met with at least a dozen doctors that are putting together a care plan for Rays future medical needs. Numerous X Rays, physical exams, blood work and MRI's.

Ray said he feels like a celebrity with all the attention he is receiving! We are overwhelmed by the amazing care and all the compassion from everyone that attends to Ray.

i think the best solution for Ray's weight loss is having him in the NYC area. We joke that the nutritionists put Ray on an "Italian Diet" and gave us the menus to all the Italian restaurants within five blocks of the hospital! Ray loves Italian food and New York pizza so.... Ray has hit three of the pizza establishments so far - and counting!

Ray is currently at Weill Cornell hospital in NYC which is attached to several other hospitals. When Ray heard the news that Dylan Raiola was in New York for surgery, he was hoping he was in his hospital! Our thoughts and prayers are with Dylan for a speedy recovery.

Once Ray's hospital stay is over, we will be transferring him to a Rehab facility in New Jersey. We will continue his primary care at Weill Cornell.

Please keep Ray in your thoughts and prayers.

We will keep you updated.

3 NOV 2025 - A long update but necessary….

For all of you that have been following Ray’s story the past few months will know that his health has been in decline for some time. The biggest concern has been his major loss of weight the past year. Over 100 pounds lost. Other issues have been that the second baclofen pump is not working correctly. Ray also has other health issues that we had been addressing in Omaha, but unfortunately, over the course of the past few months, three of Raymond‘s doctors have basically said there is nothing else they can do for Ray.

With that being said, a major decision was made to get Ray the expert medical care that he desperately needs at this time.

This past Saturday, we transferred Ray from Omaha to Weill Cornell hospital in New York City. Ray described it as an “Epic Road Trip”!

Since his arrival at the hospital it has been non stop evaluations and exams. Ray said he has seen more medical specialists the past 24 hours than the past two years!

Ray is currently being admitted for medical evaluations and possible surgeries. Weill Cornell is one of the best Neurological hospitals in the country if not the world and all the specialists we have met so far confirms that statement.

Obviously, Ray is beyond excited to be getting the medical care he so desperately needs.

Please follow Ray’s Facebook for future updates.

Thank you in advance for all your thoughts and prayers.

21 SEPT 2025 - Before the game yesterday, Ray and I visited several tailgating parties, handing out cards with his photo and a QR link to his page. I want to thank all the Nebraska fans who stopped to talk with us and show their support for Ray, it meant the world!

We also had the pleasure of sitting beside some Michigan fans for the whole game. They were truly amazing, and we had a great time together. After the game, we joked that since they were deep in Husker territory, we’d better give them a Nebraska shirt so they could leave safely! We all had a great laugh, and enjoyed the kind of sportsmanship only college football can bring.

Thank you everyone for your continued prayers and support!

18 SEPT 2025 - I apologize in advance for the length of this post, but once you read it, you’ll understand.

Many of you have followed Ray’s story since his accident. What most people don’t know is that the car accident itself did not cause Ray’s injuries.

Yes, Ray did have a car accident, died, and miraculously woke back up. But that is a half-truth.

Ray's accident is not what killed him.

On August 16, 2021, Ray’s car struck a bridge and flipped into the Elkhorn River. Though trapped in the vehicle, he was alert, conscious, and speaking with bystanders until rescue crews arrived. He had no broken bones, no head trauma, and later scans showed no water in his lungs.

According to medical records and court testimony, once Ray was placed in the ambulance, EMS attempted a medical procedure called a thoracostomy - typically used when a lung has collapsed. Expert witnesses testified that Ray’s lungs had not collapsed and that this procedure was not necessary.

What happened next was catastrophic.

On the first attempt, the tube was inserted but produced pulsating blood instead of air. Doctors later confirmed this was because the needle struck Ray’s heart.

On the second attempt, the same thing happened again.

On the third attempt, once again, blood, not air, came through.

On the fourth attempt, the result was the same.

Incredibly, the medic tried a fifth time, and once again Ray’s heart was punctured.

By the time the life flight helicopter lifted off, blood had filled the sac around Ray’s heart. He went into cardiac arrest and died in flight.

He was resuscitated at the hospital, but before surgeons could operate, he went into cardiac arrest again. He was brought back a second time, and emergency open-heart surgery saved his life. After surgery, doctors showed us scans confirming Ray’s heart had five separate puncture wounds. They also told us plainly: his life-threatening injuries were not caused by the crash, but by the procedure.

The outlook was grim. We were told Ray would not survive the night. We said our goodbyes and last rites were performed. Yet by God’s grace, Ray survived. Weeks later, though declared clinically brain-dead, he slowly began to wake up.

Today, Ray is fully aware and can communicate, but he lives with major challenges to his vision and mobility caused by the brain injury from the procedure.

We pursued justice. Our attorney, who is also a doctor, presented medical evidence, surgeon testimony, and eyewitness accounts showing this was not just negligence, but gross negligence. Yesterday in court, the judge ruled against us, calling it negligence but not “gross negligence,” which meant Ray was awarded nothing.

We are heartbroken but not defeated. We are appealing this decision. We believe the truth will come to light. And we believe God is greater than any courtroom.

Please continue to pray for Ray, for our family, and for wisdom as we move forward. Your prayers and love have carried us through these years, and we are deeply grateful.

Please share this post so others know the truth about what really happened to Ray.

God bless you all.

Ray had a great day at the game today. Here are a few highlights.

14 AUG 2025 - We try to keep these monthly updates positive and uplifting but…

I can’t wait till the day Toto can pull back the curtain and show you what is really going on in the “Land of Ray”!

With that being said, we are currently looking into other options of medical care for Ray. We will keep you updated.

Rays monthly get together with family was cancelled due to the storm last week. There was 80-90 mph winds and several trees fell on our property. One tree hit Ray’s van but fortunately it was the upper branches that took out only the windshield. Thankfully, there was no other damage to the van. His brother’s car was not as lucky taking a direct hit and getting totaled. We also lost power for 4 days.

Like the rest of us, Ray is getting anxious for the Nebraska Football season to start! Ray recently added a Dylan Raiola signed jersey to his memorabilia collection! He was very excited!

There is obviously a lot going on in Rays life right now and we hope and pray we have better news for you next month.

On a positive note, Ray has gained 4 pounds this month heading in the right direction!!

Thank you all for continuing to keep Ray in your prayers.

7 JULY 2025 - Ray has been keeping busy with his outpatient therapy at Madonna. He is now able to stand for 15 minutes and also regaining strength in his neck muscles. We are hoping he will regain enough strength to start using the automated walking machine again. (Lokomat)

We purchased a hoyer lift for the house along with a fluffy lazy boy chair. Instead of sitting in his wheelchair on house visits, we can now have Ray relaxing in a comfortable chair for all day visits!

Ray enjoyed the Fourth of July with family at Pattys. When we visit his brother Patty’s house we have enough manpower to lift him onto the couch to relax. Ray loves hanging with his nephews.

Due to the numerous surgeries Ray had this past year along with the various medications he received, Ray has lost a significant amount of weight. We currently have him on weight gain meds and a high calorie diet. Ray said he wish there was a show called “The Biggest Gainer” he could audition as a participant!

Please pray for Ray to regain weight and continue to improve with his therapy.

God bless you all!

03 JUNE 25 - Ray had a very busy week last week. He started the week off with a Memorial Day BBQ with family. On Tuesday he had Oral surgery removing two wisdom teeth and a deep cleaning. On Wednesday he traveled to Madonna Rehab in Lincoln to get his Baclofen pump filled. He made a quick stop at Bakers Candies on the ride home. On Thursday he had rehab at Madonna in Omaha. On Friday and Saturday, he hung at the house binge watching "The Chosen" and "House of David". To finish the week off Ray went to the "Waiting Room" to see his brother Josh perform with his band "Is It Josh".

He slept in late yesterday!!

Please continue to keep Ray in your thoughts and prayers!

28 APRIL 2025 - This is an overdue thank you post…

Ray's grandparents on his father side lived in New Jersey. Growing up Ray would spend his summers down the Jersey shore and every Thanksgiving or Christmas he would be running around New York City.

Ray's grandfather was from the South Bronx so by default Ray was born a New York Yankees fan! Ray also became a New York Giants fan partly to tick off his brother who was a big New York Jets fan! Ray also became a New Jersey Devils fan and a Rutgers fan.

Ray had attended wrestling camps at both Nebraska and Rutgers.

Growing up in Nebraska Ray is obviously a diehard Husker fan and also a Chiefs fan. We have Husker Football season tickets and Ray loves going to all the games.

A few months ago, our dear friend Cory got Ray a New Jersey Devils hockey jersey with his name on it. Shortly thereafter, our other dear friend, Kevin was able to get the whole New Jersey Devils team to sign Ray's jersey!

Ray collects sports memorabilia, so he was very excited his jersey was signed by the team! He hangs the framed jersey next to his prized Husker jersey signed by Ty Robinson! Ray was excited to hear Ty got drafted by the Eagles but thought it would have been awesome if both Ty and Thomas Fidone got drafted by the Giants! Ray will be torn when the Giants play the Eagles this season! Ray met Fidone at one of the Husker games and he is one of the nicest guys you can meet.

So, thank you Cory, Kevin and the New Jersey Devils for making Ray very happy! We are hoping the Devils can turn it around tomorrow night and Ray will be cheering them on! Go Devils!

26 MAR 2025 - Ray is back at his care facility resting peacefully. I sound like a broken record but all he keeps saying is “Thank God the brace is off!!” Between the surgery on his right leg followed by the surgery on his left leg, he has had a metal brace on his legs for almost five months!

He is looking forward to his rehab for both legs.

Please keep Ray in your thoughts and prayers.

25 MAR 2025 - Rays surgery went very well. No complications and he is resting peacefully in his room now.

If all goes well, Ray should be discharged tomorrow.

He is beyond happy to have the metal cage off his leg! Every time his leg was accidentally bumped it would cause pain that would linger for hours! The cage was held on to his leg by six metal skewers that went through his feet and calf muscles.

Please continue to keep Ray in your prayers.
