Inclusive Communities is a community organization trying to set the standard which includes accessibility for other languages including ASL

If you’re ever looking for an organization to donate to .. this is it!

Real conversations aren’t always comfortable, but they should be accessible to everyone.

At Conversations for Change, ASL interpretation helped create space for deaf and hard of hearing community members to fully participate, engage, and question.

Afterward, two deaf attendees shared their appreciation for being able to experience Gaby’s message in a way that felt meaningful and accessible.

It’s a reminder: accessibility is essential to building spaces where people can stay in the conversation.

Please be “mature” enough to know your limitations as a novice interpreter.
Specialized interpreting such as:
Legal, mental health, medical require more than years of experience- they require the ability to articulate ( the ability to quickly think and react to highly emotional situations

A job offer is usually the beginning of an opportunity, not the end of one.

In November 2022, a deaf applicant was offered a delivery driver position with ALM Freight, an Amazon delivery service partner. She accepted the job and began the onboarding process through the staffing agency LMDmax Corp.

For her first day of orientation, the newly hired driver requested an American Sign Language (ASL) interpreter as a reasonable accommodation.

Instead, she received a text message stating that the company does not provide interpreters and would not move forward with her hiring.
The EEOC’s suit alleged that the company’s refusal of the accommodation and subsequent revoking of the job offer violated the federal Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
The case has now been resolved.

ALM Freight will pay $47,000 and LMDmax Corp. will pay $60,000, for a total of $107,000 in damages to the applicant.

As part of the settlement, both companies must also:
• Provide training on disability discrimination and reasonable accommodations
• Track and report accommodation requests to the EEOC
• Improve onboarding practices to ensure compliance with federal disability law
